Software update

Hi!

Today I downloaded the long awaited software update.

I haven't used the phone very much, but it looks a bit snappier.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any difference in the T9 dictionary, nor has the 4way button gotten shortcuts for contacts or calendar.

Anyone noticed some new functionality?

  • I was patient until this update, but my patience came to an end.
All major issues remained the same after update !!!!!

  • I just laugh out loud becuase.....This update made some changes:
    1. Now Twitter is installed on my phone and can not be deleted
    2. Youtube icon is changed
    3. I think the phone works slightly better

Good job, now PLEASE resolve the typing issue! Thank you!

No major fixes then and still no sign of WhatsApp 🙄
  • I can wait a bit longer for WhatsApp if the phone was functional. Finding a contact to call should not be this cumbersome. Capitalising the first word in a text should not be difficult to program into a OS, the same for shortcuts on a fysical button. Why isn't this fixed in this update?

Lets hope this is a precursor for an other update which will come shortly, if not I'll switch to a Punkt MP02. Looks like that phone is more functional than this one...

By the way, found a shortcut on the 4way button! If you long press "up" the flashlight will turn on....

Also long press on the centre of the 4 way button starts Google Assistant.
  • This update is a joke...
As an addition to what is already said above:
    - I want my alarm clock to start ringing even with the phone is turned off (all nokias except this can do that since ever!
    - I want my calendar to accept new records even when I am not connected to the google calendar
    - I want my google calendar to be able to sync even with 2-step authentication turned ON (gmail works, calendar not)

    for the beginning...

Oh, almost forgot. It is still not visible to my Win10 while connected to USB (even though there is an icon appearing on the phone once connected).

So it is useless to have in that not-editable shortcut menu! :D
Frankly... probably the only thing from this update I found usefull though... sad...

I think the alarm problem is that it is a qualcomm chip set. I can't think of any phones that the alarm works with qualcomm.

that does not sound too promising...  :(
  • Dont put your mobile on battery saver,
And make clock as dont optimised by searching device into settings and battery optimization
  • I must admit that I now have moved my simcard to an old blackberry Q10. Eventhough I have to charge the battery more often, there is no trouble with writing a text message, or capitalising first letters....

Maybe if a new update will fix all mentioned problems I'll consider using the 8110 again...

Quite sad that a simple handset cannot have usefull functionality...

    Goodbye for now :)

I agree with you Fabianf. I am using a Nokia 1. I need better typing experience and Whatsapp.
  • It's sad to see 8110 with such poor features.
  • Boy ow boy, did I wish I read this forum just two days earlier. LOL
On paper this phone is my man. In real life though... It'll be gone tomorrow.
It's almost funny how it can NOT do all the things that make my superrr old feature phones such stealth performers.
And 20 years of ergonomy-experience? Where did that go?!
But hey...I'll put it in a drawer. Waiting for people at Nokia to wake up and go to work. And make this thing the coolest phone out there. (because, boys and girls @ Nokia, it could be!)

AMEN! It could have been for twice the price but with tuned up OS, better materials, gorilla glass (cover on spring) etc. and would be just super cool sh*t! As for now it is rather a prototype. Guess we should have it for free or even get paid for using it...  :(
  • I think it bothers me most:
You can not close the slide during the call
You can not reject a call using a message
    Direction buttons without shortcuts
  • And did you notice..when you're in a textbox..and you press the button on the side of the phone. You type 'e'.
    So,..you have a shortcut for 'e'!
    At least one shortcut.

  • I was very surprised that there was an update for the Nokia 8110 4G (it seems the world gotten it, except Asia). Anyway, since there is plenty of info out there regarding the new version (13.00.17.01), it also has come to my attention that Nokia and KaiOS have not listened to the complaints and request from their users what so ever. As far as my research went, the "update" did not improve the condition of the device very much, except that the YouTube app received a more "colorful" new icon and that the dusty Twitter app from the KaiOS Store is now baked into the OS (as if that was what we have asked for, I believe the request was more like, to allow users to UNINSTALL unwanted app, not to add more). For me the new update is not much a great addition to install, so I'll stick wit my Nokia Android Smartphones for now.

As far as I'm concerned after two moths of worst experience ever and after this so called update, my Nokia story is over for ever. I took my phone to a recycling center this morning. Goodbye to everyone and i suggest that all of us should spend spare time much smarter than this.

  • Indeed. Store took it back without any problems. Could've been great. Back to my E75.
