The SMS message center number is normally read from the SIM card, and should not be altered, normally. But if needed:

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and tap 'Phone information' in the menu.

Scroll to SMSC: and tap the Refresh button to view the current number.

Input the new number and tap Update.

Please note the formatting is "+??????????",145

  • Not work in nokia 6.1+*#*#4636#*#*

    @Siddhaling ,

Please explain in more detail, what does not work?

Also, in the Messages app, tap the ellipsis (3-dot) top right, select Help and feedback and carefully read the topics.

Your mobile operator / SIM provider will also help resolve all kinds of connectivity issues to their network.

Google's Messages apps have evolved a lot since the first posting in this thread.

Feel free to try for example the Textra app from play store if you can't make Messages do what you need. It is a old-fashioned SMS and MMS app with more manual options.

That's normal, it's not there, and it does not need to be there.

I'm still curious, what exactly is not working for you in the Messages app - and what have you tried already to resolve the issue?

    Hi

My Nokia 7.2 was sending txt messages fine for 6 months. After I installed the Android system update, the outbound txt messages fail.

I spoke to Vodafone (mobile services vendor). They advised I had to enter "Message Center number" +6421600600 into the phone. I could not find how to and found this post.

I have tried this instruction, but getting "Update error"

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and tap 'Phone information' in the menu.

Scroll to SMSC: and tap the Refresh button to view the current number.

Input the new number and tap Update.

Please note the formatting is "+??????????",145

I typed in the number as +6421600600,145

  • I had same problem of SMSC number update error when I try enter SMSC number +919442099997 given by operator call center person.

Finally I solved giving following in SMSC input field:

    "+919442099997" ,145

If you carefully see here, I have given space character after double quotes. After space char, I have entered ,145

    Then click Update button.

Now I am not getting update error. SMS sending is working now in my nokia phone.

Looks like, we need to follow the format like double quotes enclosed number, space after last double quote and at last enter ,145

  • My Nokia 225 4G is receiving messages automatically, but the time stamp on them will show a time 1-2hrs behind the current. Example: I text someone at 1204, they text back in a few minute time frame and it’ll show 1010 as their time stamp. My message center is set to a Seattle # and I believe this is **** things up. Help!
