You can try restarting the phone to check if it helps..

There are at least two reasons why:
    1. The battery profile is no longer in-sync with the batter itself; or
    2. The battery is failing or factory defect

Android keeps a battery profile in its system. It helps the OS itself to determine the charge status of the battery. It is very important that the battery profile is in-sync with the actual battery. If not, a lot of things can happen and one is what you just described.

It can be fixed by rooting your phone. Mine is experiencing the same thing; then it will work fine; then it's back again. There is a bug somewhere. But, I don't want to root this unit so, I just live with it.

I not sure if this will help but I read a post on Reddit that you can fix this with clearing the cache of the "battery protection" app. I've tried it myself after experiencing unusual battery drain after the November security update. At the app info screen, tap on the three dots at the upper right and select "show system" to see the system apps.
