On a chilly December evening in New Delhi came the hottest new addition to the Nokia Smartphones portfolio. HMD Global officially launched the new Nokia 8.1 at the 1AQ art space a stone’s throw away from the iconic Qutub Minar.
If you happened to miss the livestream or were unable to attend, here are some pictures from a truly magical night replete with stunning performances, spectacular photography, meaningful insights, and, of course, the unveiling of the new Nokia 8.1 in India.
The outdoor setup, and some exhilarating performances…
We had a mini-exhibition of photographs taken on the Nokia 8.1 by celebrity photographer Avinash Gowariker.
After a beautiful dance performance and haunting violin solo, we were underway with Ajey Mehta, VP and Country Head – India, HMD Global, who took us through the HMD Global and Nokia journey in India, and plans for things to come.
Next up was a passionate, insightful, humorous talk by Juha Werkkala, Senior Product Marketing Manager, HMD Global.
Nokiamob.net has a nice review of our launch event. Here’s an extract:
“[Juha Werkkala] started the presentation talking about Nokia’s strongest aspect – the build quality. He talked how HMD’s designers explained to him how thoughtfully the Nokia 6, HMD’s first phone, was created; how HMD’s Materials team needed to find new solutions to make the Nokia 7 plus the beauty it is and similar stuff in that sense. It was a bit longer than usual, but it was really nice the hear the impressive and interesting background story about some devices and processes… the initial monolog about the design, processes, challenges the team faced with some aspects of the device was refreshing to hear and quite frankly, more of that please, because that’s how you sell a product to those watching. I mean, I could’ve read the specs and saw the images without watching the announcement – tell us a story – a real one that’s also a good one.”
Juha then invited ace photographer Avinash Gowariker to talk about his experience with the Nokia 8.1.
Avinash offered a glimpse of how his mind works as a photographer and told us he was amazed by just how intuitive the Nokia 8.1 is when it came to taking photos, especially in low light.
The next guest on stage was Rajen Vagadia, President – India and SAARC, Qualcomm. Rajen talked about the many technological innovations under the hood of the new Qualcomm™ Snapdragon® 710 Mobile Platform, the hardware that powers the Nokia 8.1.
Finally, Ajey returned to the stage to announce the pricing and availability of the new Nokia 8.1. Then, it was time for a photo-op.
The new Nokia 8.1 comes with proprietary PureDisplay technology, ZEISS optics, Optical Image Stabilisation, a Qualcomm™ Snapdragon® 710 processor, and Android 9 Pie out of the box.
