@Jivko Antonov: Unfortunately, my battery is currently at 85%, so I have to wait a little bit until I can try it out ...

@jdan: of course you are right, but I have made the experience myself that a complete charging cycle (0 - 100%) from time to time (!!!) can already help to straighten out the energy consumption (or its measurement).

Bad news: Annoyingly this problem is NOT solved with my Nokia 8 (January Patch installed) ... just all fingerprints were gone again :s
  • Why then I don't have this problem anymore?

I have no problem with this. After I've completed my Android Pie upgrade, I've had several issues. That's why I made a factory reset. I only have two problems (compass and animations). I recommend a factory reset ;)

Regarding the animations, I went into developer options and set the animation durations to 0.5x. Maybe it'll be more bearable that way.

@marsicThank you. I totally forgot about this option. It's better. ;)
  • Why? What kind of problem do you have with the animations?

Slow animations. These settings accelerate them. :)
  • I know, but they don't look slower than 8.1.
  • Again I have a problem with the fingerprints, they missed after depletion of battery.
What I observed is that after the phone turns off, you have to charge it at least to 20% before power it on. I did this once and the fingerprints were there.
Please test this method and share what happens.
  • It happened with my Nokia 5 today after a forced reboot when battery was about 3%. Fingerprint sensor is unresponsive. No fingerprints are stored, but when I try to register again same fingerprints, system tells me to try another finger. 🙄
  • After some hours, I found a fast workaround: under Security and Local, tap over Screen lock and change your option from PIN/swipe/password to None. It will erase your stored fingerprints together. Next, tap on Fingerprint and system will ask you to create a new PIN and after set your fingerprints again. 😬
  • LoL, Nokia 5 has the same problem. I didn't expect it.

Or you simply do a restart - at least my Nokia 8 let's me enter the fingerprints again after that

  • I am still having the same problem : fingerprints are 'forgotten', but not really. When I register an as yet unregistered fingerprint, my already set fingerprints are not visible in the settings, but can be used to log in again. It could be that it happens when my phone has been low on battery, I will keep an eye on that.

This is exactly the point - see here (and following posts):

    ...
Yes. I'm also now in a situation where according to settings there's only one finger set, but in reality it still remembers also the "old" fingers. This happened after I had run out of juice.

Edit: it seemed to forget the old training set after reboot so I was able to train it again
  • My fingerprints disappear even when my battery still more than 30%. It happened so few times till now and it so annoying. Can't believe what Nokia doing with their first flagship

I have never let my Nokia 8 go flat so never seen the problem, however my wife's went flat last night and after a charge all registered fingerprints have vanished, very annoying.

Thing is when you have just travelled for 8 or 9 hours and your phone has been the main source of entertainment on that trip sometimes you cant help but have the battery drop dead.

There is too much fear regarding letting a lithium cell go completely flat, the battery if it is worth its salt will have deep discharge protection and when you actually see it at 1% and take its dying breath as your device shuts down it isn't actually anywhere near flat, it is just protecting itself.

Same with charging overnight or keeping the cell between 10 and 80% to protect its life span, by the time you have killed the cell from misuse (which the cell will protect itself against) you will have changed your device anyway.

Lithium cells die naturally over time even if unused and there is nothing on planet earth can stop that.

If this works --Not convinced but I'll try it!--It's a far better option than "reset factory defaults". That's NEVER a solution. At best it's a last ditch workaround, and I really wish people wouldn't keep suggesting you just throw away everything you've built up over years to work around somebody else's mistake. This is a Nokia error, and Nokia should have fixed it (not fixed in the January update, and late March and I still haven't got the February update!)
  • And no, it doesn't work at all. After turning off all security, then resetting my pattern, when I try to set a finder print it still thinks my old ones are there, and insists I use a new finger. I'm out of fingers!

Have you tried a restart of the phone? Usually after that you can set your fingerprints again ...
  • Not a proper solution but still working for me. Never turn on your phone immediately after plugging the charger when it shuts down because of low battery. Wait until it gets 10%+ charged. This a bit annoying in certain conditions but still that's the only working solution i have found so far.

The problem occurs every time the phone turns off because the battery is empty: all fingerprints removed!!! :s
Yes it really sucks. The real problem is I can't add previous fingers. I habe to add different finger. Then previous fingers also enable. But not showing

Have you tried restarting the device? I was able to add the previous fingerprints again after that ...

  • Same with my Nokia 6. Pie update made my phone don't let me unlock screen after 0% battery turn off. None of updates fix problem but if you add another, new finger, all of old one starts work fine untile next 0% batter shutdown<b></b>
