FYI, I think that the compass issue is well known by HMD digital marketing and social media team. Why? Because @Francesco Bacchini and I told them directly ourselves and more importantly because I think they use this page to track what the current hot topics which people are discussing here on the forums: https://community.phones.nokia.com/bestof/
I think that they also use analytical tools with Twitter, facebook, etc. as well to show them to top topics which people are talking about in relation to their phones.
So, keep talking and it will continue to be in their consciousness.
As a a rascally idea, anyone who wants could re-appropriate some of HMD's own #tag marketing mottos to highlight the compass issue, e.g. #UniteFor working compass! or #WhatMatters is knowing which direction I'm going in!
Well, actually compass is working but the main issue is that North and South are inverted!
That's like saying don't worry ladies and gentlemen, the engines have stopped but this plane is still working.
I do not understand, how your compass can point east and west correctly, if the north and south are reversed. For me, compass is reversed in all directions. Btw, if I have a phone on my desk, the world sides are correct. As soon as I lift it to the vertical position in the hand, the compass is completely reversed.
It is my last comment here. Sorry, we are ON PAGE 12!!! Yes,the compass doesn't work since "Pie". And, yes, I believe, that HMD knows it. BUT, this was it. AND NOW??? We can write here to page 24, it will be the same.
I tweeted this photo to the people that matter a couple of months ago saying i had fixed the compass for them but my genius solution fell on blind eyes and deaf ears.

The stargazing apps don't show a compass, they rotate the night sky. When I point the phone to the East and West the correct part of the sky is shown, turning the phone to due North, the sky image flips to the South.

You should try the Night AR in PhotoPills ,it no longer has a clue where to point, the milky way is flying about all over the place.
£10 PhotoPills cost me and thanks to the lack of a fix it has been absolutely useless for 4 months.
Going back to Oreo doesn't seems to be option, or is it? I am also getting very sick of hanging around for the nice people at HMD Global to come up with a fix...

There is no official way to go back to Oreo, as Nokia care had delight in telling me.
Found this in a post , further down the page here so credit to the op mcdona922
I solved the issues downloading "Stato GPS" from the App Store
Hmm, intriguing, but the problem is not just gone. Perhaps you didn't look carefully, or even if that app shows the compass properly, what about all the other millions (of apps) that also use the magnetic/compass sensor for whatever they do?
Anyway, thanks for the input, someone may benefit from it. Cheers!

Good point, but I solved the problem forcing the phone to re-download A-GPS informations every 15 minutes. This has been a good workaround for me.

A-GPS gives a device the location of the satellites in the sky for a faster initial lock and nothing else. I have used GPS Status for years and even with regular A-GPS downloads the compass in that just does what it pleases.
Best test of the compass working or not is go for a walk with Google Maps open and i am willing to stick my neck out and say the map on your screen will be the wrong way round.
I agree with @mrbelter! You can use Google Maps pedestrian navigation and see you walking backwords or you can simply try this: stand on one place, turn around slowly (!) by 90 / 180 / 270 / 360
degrees and watch the compass needle flip ... regardless of what compass you use and/or how often you download A-GPS data!
The whole problem is, that Nokia is not interested in bug fixes. Rather, they will release Android 9 on cheap phones and issue monthly security updates for them, but users who bought a high-end phone has bad luck. Last security update was released to my Nokia 8 in January, and nothing since then. It's unbelievable. Many bugs, late or no security updates, etc. It should be as a warning to people who are considering buying a Nokia phone.
@madbilly Support department is 100% filled with people who have zero tech background. That's the real problem. Another problem is that they don't get any information from R&D department regarding software & hardware issues and software updates.

I see no results. 😭😒
I bet they have all teams focused on the development of the new phones.
Let's hope compass will be finally fixed too. This is last chance I am giving to Nokia.
