I have tested with compass galaxy and this looks okay for me. North is displayed to the same direction, when phone is put on flat surface. But we should get some more feedback from others.
The ultimate test is Sky Map (by Sky Map Devs) - It is all over the place in the old versions of Pie on Nokia 8 when the phone is tilted and pointed in different directions.
I don't know exactly how to use that sky map app, but it also points north to same direction. No matter how you hold your phone: in landscape or portrait mode and how much have you turned yourself to a side. My compass accuracy was set to medium.
Thanks for the updates, it's starting to sound quite promising! However, I'm not sure I'm quite ready to flick the switch and update to Android 9 just yet, I feel like I'd like to see more evidence to be fully convinced!
We'll keep you posted @ Madbilly - I'm still waiting for WW_5_150 here in Denmark, but apart from the compass mess and totally arbitrary photo tagging, there are things I like about Pie...
I'm not sure what this 5.150 version is. The official Security Maintenance Release summary does not show there exist a version 5.150 !! Can somebody please explain, maybe I'm missing some point here. Please check the link and select phone nokia 8, there is only 5.140 !!
martin.fd I sure have noticed that, but when I select in the drop list the phone NOKIA 8, the list of updates for Nokia 8 appear and I don't see 5.150 ! I see 5.140 and 5.110 but no 5.150.
ok I got it seriously this list should be updated when there's a new update out, remember this is an official disclosure page. HMD is not being serious at all...
I have just given my Nokia 8 to the electronics market to have the compass "repaired" on warranty ... curious what happens now
Information from Service Center: "The specified error could not be traced. The current software was flashed according to the manufacturer's specifications." Now I am curious with which Pie version the device comes back (V5.150 has not arrived in Germany yet) ... and if the compass really works???

I got a receipt for my Nokia 8 on the 25th of April saying they had it and were going to fix it and I've not heard a thing since so like you Martin i am curious as the what it is going to come back running. I'm guessing the flipping beta and not .150
Others have reported getting their phones back from service with the original firmware installed so you may both be happy back on Nougat with the pre-pro camera app and everything working!
Going back to Nougat would be good, i could sell it with a load of updates waiting for the new owner "look this baby is brand new, i promise loads of updates for it in the future and look at this, the compass is a beauty!"

Then again if the new update solves a lot of the issues and your phone gets fixed may be worth making it your main phone and keep the 8.1 as a backup (just in case). I cut up a old Vodafone sim and am using that to get the update running, My EE sim couldn't see it.

Ooooooh no, the 8.1 is much nicer even with its Inferior chipset.

But we should get some more feedback from others.
Compass seems to be working Ok.
Google sky maps can find the sun, as it didn't have a clue before.
During the day, just see if skymaps can find the sun.
Hold the phone and turn around and a little picture of the sun will appear on screen when facing the sun.
Obviously at night it will show you what stars and planets are what.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where did you get this update?
First post.
Okay, that makes it "official"
