Does my 8.1 support VoLTE?

Hello everyone

A couple of days ago I bought a NOKIA 8.1 global version 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. I want to activate the VoLTE but I couldn't find it in the options.
My model number is TA-1119.
Can someone from NOKIA answer me please.

Thank you

if ur operator supports Voice over LTE.. .u should see the option there. . try removing SIM then reboot and reinsert. If fails check for any other SIM is working!
  • Yes i have tried everything possible to activate it. And looked for it everywhere. But still nothing.

@BuFhD you don't have many option there, are you sure you're up to date in updates? Check whether you updated for security patch dec 1. Because mine looks like this

  • Hello @nimishagupta

Yes i have the latest updates and still nothing. Contacted nokia and my Carrier and each one just tells me its not from the. The carrier says its activate from their side and nokia tells me i wont have the option untill the carrier activates the service. I really don't know what to do and just now noticed the touch issue thought at first its just me moving my finger too fast for the screen.

Any word from @nokia is appreciated

    Thanks all
  • I am missing it too. It was there on my old Nokia 6.1. Perhaps the provider needs to enable the model?

Mine volte is also not working
  • Airtel Volte is not working properly on Nokia 8.1. When you call a person, who is not having VOLTE enabled or other service provider, the call simply does not go at all. Once, VOLTE disabled, call gets connected. I guess that is why it is not mentioned in Airtel website as VOLTE phone from Nokia.

My 8.1 and 8 for that matter have never had the enhanced 4g LTE mode option but all my calls remain on 4g and are in HD so i presumed it was just an automatic thing these days.

If your phone was bought SIM free and not from a network it is pot luck as to whether it will work or not, mine works a treat on EE but wont work on O2 for example, sadly Android wont work universally like an iPhone does just yet.
  • Anyone using Nokia 8.1 (TA-1119) in NZ with VoLTE?
  • I am using 8.1 (TA-1119) and I also don't have such an option in the menu despite my carrier supporting VoLTE. I am from Bulgaria. Any advice for solving the issue is welcome.

Is there any definitive source of how VoLTE/VoWiFi/4G calling is actually enabled on Nokia phones?

I have a Nokia 8.1, parents have one and a Nokia 7.2 as well. Vodafone (UK) has announced they are turning off their 3G network in 2023 and they think we all have 3G-only capable phones (despite the phones sitting on the 4G network for data usage all day). They keep sending text messages advising us to get 4G phones or we might lose the ability to make phone calls if there is no 2G coverage to fall back to. The phones flip to 3G or 2G currently if an incoming or outgoing call occurs.

I have tried repeatedly over the past year to get the VoLTE/VoWiFi/4G calling enabled. Vodafone (well, Voxi really) have tried changing my settings on the network and even sending a new SIM out. They've tried sending provisioning messages for newer types of Nokia, but I don't get the options for VoLTE etc. If I put an EE sim in (from a different UK network), these options suddenly appear in the menus and the star-hash-star-hash-4-6-3-6-hash-star-hash-star menu shows VoLTE and VoWiFi is then provisioned. So the phone can do it.

I sent screen shots off to Vodafone proving this and they now say they have contacted Nokia, but Nokia claim the phone won't work with Vodafone and as it is no longer getting software updates they aren't going to do anything about it.

For a standards-compliant phone I struggle to understand how a manufacturer has to hard-code firmware in order to make something like VoLTE work. Are phones in the future supposed to have server addresses for every single network on the planet hard-coded into firmware?

Is it true that the problem lies with Nokia, or are Vodafone making it up and they just don't know how to provision access properly and all that is needed is for the IMEIs of Nokia 8.1s to be put on some sort of 'allowed' list?

    Best wishes,

    Mark.

  • Today I borrowed a family member's EE SIM card (EE is a different mobile network in the UK to Vodafone). On my Nokia 8.1 and my dad's Nokia 7.2 I can confirm WiFi calling (VoWiFi) and 4G calling (VoLTE) work perfectly well with these phones on a network that allows access. The WiFi calling menu appears and if aeroplane mode is selected, and then WiFi turned back on, the devices can make phone calls and the WiFi symbol is displayed in the call log.

If I put the Vodafone/Voxi SIM in an iPhone I find that device can make VoWiFi calls showing it must be provisioned for the account and it is just that this service doesn't work on Vodafone's network in the UK for Nokia 8.1s and 7.2s.

I struggle to believe something needs to be hard coded into the phone at a firmware level in order to allow each operator around the world access to the VoLTE/VoWiFi capabilities.
