I dont get it, why they release it only in some country from Europe?
Maybe it's not HMD blocking it but something else. With my normal SIM in I am not offered the Android 9 update at all, but when I put an invalid SIM (operator no longer exists) in I am offered Android 9 with the February security update.

I can't explain why, but this is what happens for me.

Every update is available if released by HMD or other company for your phone (identified by IMEI) even if you don't have SIM card inserted in your phone. Operator could be blocking update when you have SIM inserted or when your phone has special firmware designed by manufacturer for specific operators and that firmware may come preloaded with specific operator apps.
Maybe in your case operator is in fact blocking Pie but I don't see how it's possible for operator to block update for us who bought phones unlocked & when SIM card is not inserted in a phone.

@potemkin i remember that the beta labs registration form asked about my telecom network/operator, among other things. Perhaps this info has been added to the registered IMEI of the device and so got some kind of connection with the operator? I'm just throwing a wild guess here, trying to shed some light into this chasm of HMD-Global uncertainties...
  • My phone is operator free. Also I tryed with different sim and also dead sim. No luck

Could be but I never registered for Beta labs program and still can't get update after January patch.

Could not be because I did register and, as it says on page 8 in my screenshot, I am on January.
  •  It's almost June and my phone is still on the January 2019 security patch. Since some people received the February update already, I really cannot understand why HMD refuses to make it available to all users. My network is Vodafone Romania.
  • No security software update since January 1st in Slovakia. Let's see this week.

@Gabriel Spatariu it is not almost June, it's the middle of April; we're halfway between February and June.

@potemkin my phone was never locked to an operator and when only on wifi or with working SIM removed I cannot get the update. I can only get the update with the invalid SIM installed.

However, what you say may be correct, that it is related to the network operator (physical, not MVNO) which HMD know that my phone was last working with and they have some database which tracks this. In which case this suggests that it is the network operators blocking the update, not allowing HMD to push it. Although my understanding was that this wasn't how it worked in most countries for unlocked phones.

To me that seems more like an accidental exploit of a bug in HMD's system (not surprisingly).

If that is correct then one has to ask himself: why would operators in UK, India, and other countries allow HMD to push update and others wouldn't? I think the answer is simple. In my opinion, HMD just didn't push February update to all countries. You have to keep in mind that update, especially when it's Maintenance Release, after development has to be tested to work correctly with all operators in all countries. So, HMD decided, as usual, that Nokia 8 just isn't worth its time and skipped February update for half a countries.

Trouble is i am in the UK and my wife and Friends have the Feb update but i don't so i would say in this instance the update was actually pulled.
  • Big surprise today is receiving security update in March when I have January. She jumped over that of February. Romania - Orange Operator.
  • Is just like: Are you crying about updates, take updates. Bugs, camera issue, bla bla bla, not our problem. But they dont get it that is not about 10-20 man here, is global. That is why huawey is better, or even xiaomi.

  • We wont get  one. I am considering sending back the phone to see how the magicaly repair compass.
  • Still no March update for my Nokia 8 (TA-1004). Very interesting.

I'm guessing they released the March SP only for those who were on February with full Pie, or?
I mean, I'm still on beta Pie with January 2019 SP and maybe the March SP only includes the security patch but not the rest of the features of Pie so they can't give it to those who are still on beta? if not, I honestly have no clue why we still don't have any updates...
Seems to me like they can't figure out how to update people from beta to the same version as people on stable, so they keep updating phones on stable but not phones on beta
  • remove the beta version of the Android Pie from your smartphone
  • Beta=January version of Pie

I wasn't in pie beta program, but also stuck in january update...

It's not impossible. I also signed up for the Pie beta in December. Because it's quite strange that most people already have a March patch but we not got it yet. But kael above says, he is not in the beta program and also has no March update. Very strange.

    Hi all,

I want to give a quick update concerning the March SP:

There was a one-time issue in rolling out March security update for Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 2 due to the addition of new test cases and together with Google, we decided to take extra time to review before releasing the update. The four impacted product will receive March security patch in the coming week.

    Best regards,
    Laura

    @HMD_Laura Did you mean weeks?
