still not available in ireland an utter joke.

It was a 10 month joke for me but since I've got it, it's a joke no more because it's a reality for me.

@jimmyireland may not becoming to the UK according to what O2 carrier told me in twitter. HMD have not answered my question.
  • What about whatsapp web? Is there anyone who could activate it from the 8110?
I hope they will add the emojis too

You cannot use WhatsApp on Nokia 8110 from the browser. Entering https://web.whatsapp.com it will detect your device and redirect you to https://whatsapp.com.
  • UK user here still not got V16 or V15.

Pretty annoyed as I purchased this phone due the reported global roll out of the update.

Fully unlocked single SIM UK device with EE SIM.  :(

I am as frustrated as you are. You can contact Nokia support and complain like I did. Maybe it will speed things up. This is a complete joke and no one takes responsibility.

@PipSpawn @orips I contacted Doro and Cat and asked if their respective KaiOS powered phones had the KaiOS 2.51 update to enable Facebook and Whatsapp in the UK and the answer is no. So no KaiOS powered phones in the UK can run Whatsapp.

I have seen on here in another thread a few people in the UK have got it already.

I'm getting sent in circles with who to ask.
KaiOS support say it's out and it's down to manufacture to release it, then manufacturers say it's down to operators to approve it and release it. I get a little stuck with an unlocked phone.
O2 have said they are skipping v15 & v16 so I have stuck an EE SIM in untill I can download as some talk is EE devices are getting v16

I don't understand how the operators have anything to do with it. The software update is being downloaded from the public internet. For v13 I got the update through WiFi and my mobile data was disabled at the time. I am not buying it.

Moreover, if I call my operator and ask him about v15 for Nokia 8110 he will not have any idea what I'm talking about because I haven't bought the phone through the operator.

It's entirely Nokia's / KaiOS's fault. In my case, KaiOS blames Nokia, and Nokia doesn't provide any useful information. I have no words to describe my disappointment. I am checking for updates almost hourly and I am dying to ditch my smartphone which I retain only for WhatsApp access.

I have contacted KaiOS yet again an pledged them to do something, or maybe press Nokia a bit more. They should care about it, because their hard work on this WhatsApp version was done in vain if half of the users don't get it.
  • @orips am in the same boat as you, please let me know if you encounter a solution either with or without the 8110!

Sadly I think the carriers do have to give final approval on firmware updates. O2 and EE told me so. They have to verify that any updates don't cause network problems. So I think Nokia has released V15 in the UK but no approval yet. Networks aren't interested in cheaper phones.

It doesn't make sense. If you disable the mobile data and use WiFi only, then the mobile carrier is not even in the picture. Then, why also in this case you don't receive the update? Moreover, I managed to trick my phone into thinking it's in the UK by connecting to a WiFi that goes through a VPN in the UK and still didn't get the update.

On top of that, I've just had a phone call with my mobile carrier and they absolutely didn't have any slightest idea what I was talking about, which is exactly what I predicted will happen.

I think it's up to Nokia. There's some kind of condition in the update program code that takes into consideration the device attributes. Maybe devices that belong to some production series cannot handle the update due to a hardware malfunction and they don't want them to break, so they coded it in such a way that those devices cannot get the update.

This is obviously a scam, and I am waiting for a response from KaiOS yet again.

In the meantime, I'm going to go to a store and buy another device. Maybe I can make a deal with the vendor that if it doesn't have v15 I can return it and get a refund. (my current device was ordered from Amazon UK).

@orips KaiOS themselves told me that a phone needs a Sim in to get the updates. The phone set up takes into account the network. Also the store doesn't show the social catagory.
Have tried the Phone with no SIM card in as well and no update

Yea I tried that no SIM trick, is why I ended up getting an EE SIM to stick in as in.

No, it is not possible, no QR code scan option (as known e.g. from Android). :-(

It's so disappointing to finally have whatsapp on the 8110 and not having it anymore on my pc
  • My WhatsApp just got an update. I'm not using my 8110 as my primary device for WhatsApp. If someone else got the update (version number isn't shown until WhatsApp is set up), please give a feedback about changes.
  • I have both the single sim and dual SIM Nokia 8110, using the dual SIM gave me the update with Giffgaff sim. Tried Giffgaff SIM in single sim po phone and only get v13 update

Same here. After reading coments elsewhere  tried my phone and now available in the UK. Using a Giffgaff /o2 SIM card. This is surprise as o2 support said it definitely wasn't going to happen. Between o2, EE, HMD and KaiOS none of their support teams know what is happening. .
  • Got the V16 on my single sim UK unlocked phone running on Vodafone. 1st impressions - FM radio sounds better, keyboard slightly less button bounce
  • I too have V16 in the UK, on EE. Now have WhatsApp. Yay :)
  • Just contacted the Nokia helpdesk about Whatsapp web. The guy I was chatting with gave a reply after a few questions, but it's hardly confirming or disconfirming:

Hi! How can we help you today with your Nokia phone or accessory?

-Hi, I am interested in the Nokia 8110. I read that the phone supports Whatsapp by now, but that it's not possible to link to Whatsapp Web on my laptop. Is this function being developed? Because then I think this Nokia would be the perfect phone for me (not kidding).
    Yours sincerely,

  • Any News from Telegram??
  • Hi Jimmy, any update on availability in Ireland yet?
  • Still no updates for me. UK. Dual SIM. Giffgaff.
    Stuck on v12.00.17.10
    Anything else I can check?

@acronism obviously it also depends on which market the phone was made for and not just using a UK GiffGaff sim card.
