Hi, I wonder, is  this version  really base on Android Q Beta 【3】?
    Or, it's based on Android Q Beta 1 or 2 ?
  • It dont think they even gave Q B3, but it's looking like even older build than Q B1

Hello, I think if you can then try waiting till May 16 so that you can officially rollback to Android Pie. This is mentioned in the Nokia developer preview info page.

Thank you. I missed this so at least now I have a peace of mind.

On the bright side, I got the WiFi working so I can at least help out with the feedback both on the built in app and here on these forums.

    Hi everyone,

The developer preview is not really intended for people who have only one smartphone. It is for people who want to taste and test the latest Android version and 1) give feedback and bug reports to Google and HMD and 2) test the apps they develop themselves to make sure they work on Android 10.

If you don't have another smartphone, don't intend to give bug reports and you're not an app developer then I pressingly strongly recommend that you don't install the preview.

But if you do then remember to have fun and enjoy it! :D
    Cheers:)
The build HMD asked developers to sideload is too premature. In fact, it is to useless to preview. Other brands like one Plus are downloading Beta 3 which is what Google asked developers to preview and not the Beta 1 that HMD asked Nokia developers to sideload. HMD should be serious for once and release the Beta 3 that others are downloading via OTA

It's sad that the Android Q build HMD asked developers to sideload is too premature. In fact, it is too useless for any developer to preview. Other brands like one Plus and Essential released Beta 3 which is what Google asked developers to preview and not the Beta 1 that HMD asked developers using Nokia 8.1 to sideload. HMD should be serious for once and release the Beta 3 that others are downloading via OTA.

It is a big shame that HMD is releasing the premature Beta 1 of Android Q on Nokia 8.1 that is an Android one device while other smartphone brands have already released the Beta 3 which Google asked developers to preview. By releasing the premature Beta 1, HMD simply made Nokia 8.1 of developers unusable and consequently can't be able to preview the Build.

When HMD CPO Juho Sarvikas changed his Twitter name from Juho to Quho, many were of high spirit that the Android Q Beta 3 will be available on a Nokia device without knowing that HMD and Juho simply want to make Nokia 8.1 of developers unusable with the premature Beta 1 of Android Q.

HMD should stop playing with Nokia users and be serious for once. It should release the Beta 3 over the air now.

This just proves to me one can never satisfy people. People moan if they don't supply a beta/developer preview. People moan if it's late, people moan when they do, people moan if it's buggy, people moan and moan and moan. Easy, if you don't want bugs don't load it and then later on moan about it. There was ample warning given to warn everyone about known issues. And if your common sense couldn't tell you that there will/might be more bugs then I don't know and don't have any hope for you in the future.

Thanks @matteo.m and Nokia for releasing a developer preview.  B)

Hey, I noticed that your SIM is working. Did you do anything to make it work or was it working as soon as your updated?

My 5 -6 hours with ADP.

Some missing features/bugs which i noticed are -

    1. Gestures
    2.Buggy Download manager
3.VoLTE seems to be working but not completely. I can receive calls but not make calls and send/receive sms.
4.Camera works fine. However, its the vanilla version of Camera app provided by Qualcomm so nothing special expected from it. Nokia will surely replace that app with it's own in upcoming builds.

5.External storage like SD card is not accessible by third-party apps but only system apps compatible with Android Q . I guess there are some changes with Storage framework because of which apps are not able to access SD card. Checked this with Whatsapp, instagram.

6.Apps requiring Google certifications/safety net or something similar would not work because the OS is still in Development phase.

7.Fingerprint is working fine, but is slow.
8.Dark theme is not properly applied over settings app.
    9.Files app crashes when refreshing.

For the people who are complaining for bugs, these kind of builds are not to be used on your daily driver device. If you dont have a secondary device with you, then please dont load this.
The preview is still in development phase and will definitely have bugs.

No matter if its beta 1 or beta 3 . It may get even worse or stable with future updates.

Will provide feedback as much as possible to make it stable..
A Developer can only be able to preview a usable build. A build that makes a phone unusable shouldn't be released for preview. Google released Beta 3 that is very usable and manageable to developers to preview but instead of releasing the Beta 3 Build, HMD released the premature Beta 1 build which is totally unacceptable. We need the Beta 3 build now.

I am pretty sure, beta 3 is on its way .

as i can see that the kernel was built on 5th May 2019 and even it has latest security patches till 5th May .

So, there are possibilities that they will release the new OS soon BETA 3

As for the usability, I am able to receive calls/make calls and send/receive sms on non VoLTE network. There are some issues with VoLTE which from my past experience with beta builds is quite normal.

There are definitely some graphical glitches here n there but its usable.Given Nokia customized apps are still missing, your mileage may vary.

    Gcam also works fine.

EDIT:Just looked into Android Q Release notes and everywhere else.
    ONE PLUS Forums------------

Mi9 - Have same build as ours.
LG G8 Thinq- Also has same build as ours.

and man they have even much more worse issue than ours.

Atleast i am able to use stable wifi and mobile networks.

Also, all the devices have same beta version.

    Qkq1.190406.002

This build version is visible on every device review i have seen today, including realme,mi9,lg,oneplus.

So saying that they released beta 1 while others released 3 is not right.

Infact the graphical glitches, we are seeing on our phone can also be seen on G8/mi9/realme.

Its just creating a stable rom takes some time and testing .

We cant cant expect a stable rom just like that.

Ours is closest to vanilla android, whereas realme or other brands (i read about in the forum) , have added their own apps as well in the early release like some gestures or launcher customization but not stable network or wifi.

While atleast on my device, i am having stable mobile data and wifi, BT, camera with the ADP.

So what i can say is, others have more features and customization but 8.1 is more closer to stability.

As for the apps compatibility, there are a lot of under-the-hood changes in Android Q regarding storage and privacy which is even being tackled by google itself. (Source- release notes) and they need support from the app developer.

Example--New storage framework is getting tested and legacy support is yet to be implemented a reason why many apps are getting crashed /unable to access storage.

    Vibration - works
    Fingerprint - works
Pattern and pin - both works
    Videos- works.
Phone calls - for non volte its stable , for volte not so good.
    Adaptive brightness - works
Camera - works (Portait mode needs Nokia app which is not there yet)
System Stable - didnt crash till now, got hanged a few times, but it was during app installations / file transfers, so no issues over there.

The reason for this data is not to hurt anyone. I understand your anger over getting your device stuck in unusable state.

But, you are not alone. There are many facing same issues, the issues we knew about already.

Other previews are similar to ours. Infact, the build number is also same, its just that they tried including features first.

Its Beta 3 only. Other devices are also having the same build and accordin to google's release notes - In beta 2 photos was not even displaying the images at all but they fixed in beta 3 . However, it still cant access Media on SD Card . its because of new Storage Framework. Apps are yet to get updated for new APIs. Cheers ! 😁🤞

No problem bro. Its your wish to agree or not.

But i have seen it myself live and believe me we are still good.

For essential - yes the number of bugs is less. However, there is not much content available online,so cant comment on the usability of essential, but from the content i read, essential do have bugs with fp and network.

    EDIT::
You can have a look here for more details about beta 1 or beta 3-https://developer.android.com/preview/release-notes

You can revert to pie after 16th .

    Cheers!😁✌️🤞
