Greetings Nokia 8.1 Android Q developer
preview fans.
We are pleased to announce that the Beta 5
Developer preview build is now available for sideload (V4.070). This release
also includes the July 2019 Security Patch. At the moment we are only able to
offer an upgrade from Android Q Beta 3 to Android Q Beta 5. An upgrade from
Android 9 Pie to Android Q Beta 5 is in the works and will be released shortly,
so stay tuned!
Please note, we are unable to offer the
Android developer preview builds to devices in China, Russia, or to certain
network providers.
The program currently supports models
TA-1119, TA-1121 and TA-1128. To check your device is compatible, go to
Settings > System > About Phone > Model & hardware.
If you see reference to “00WW” and your
locale is not Russia, then you’re good to go.
If you see reference to “00CN”, or if your
locale is Russia, then please do not use these builds.
Enjoy testing, Laura
@HMD_Laura, the ones with July Security patch on Android 9 Pie won't be able to install this Android Q Developer Preview Beta Build 5 for now ??
@Argho Sarkar For now you have to be already on Beta 3 in order to be able to get Beta 5. But we are working on upgrade for Pie users to Beta 5 and it should be available shortly.
Waiting for a new build for those on Android 9 Thanks for the update! I do not want to wipe my data, else I'd have flashed an older release and upgraded to Android Q.
UPDATE! This release should install on every device, not just those on Android Q beta 3. The timestamp is of 2nd August and is clean since the last Android P update is timestamped in July. Full sized update does not require any pre-build. There is absolutely no reason this build will not install for users who are on Android P right now.
Edit: Okay, the fault seems to be in the pre-device. Our device on July is gsi_sdm_64. The expected device is PNX in the above build. That's the only reason. I'll still try it to find out

okay i'm excited and i have comments and questionsssss. so first of all, IT'S ABOUT TIME! secondly, how soon is the update from Pie to Q Beta 5 ? by shortly do you mean tomorrow or we have to wait ANOTHER month. third, will the update be provided OTA? because side loading is a daunting task. i'm not really liking the idea of wiping my phone to install Q Beta 5.

Shortly shouldn't mean a month. It should be available in a few days or weeks. They are also working on providing the Developer Preview build as OTA and it should be live within this month.
I've updated ermmm This new beta version is great, i haven't suffer any bugs, thumbs up for that
Nice , they took their sweet time to remove the bugs. Something nice from their side
Well actually the ui is pretty weird. The wifi icon on the status bar indicates which kind of wifi i'm using, ac or n/b/a and the battery icon looks as chubby as it was prior to the beta 3 ))) idk but it's kinda mess on the notch of the phone. Run fast and smoothly, however ))))

Just my own observation buddy. I was trying to find details from the update file. Then I compared the info with the build.prop from my Nokia 8.1, and that's the only issue I've found. I don't know why they modified the build.prop in recent releases to call the device as GSI_SDM660. It used to be PNX in the previous months.
Well the ADP is basically a GSI anyway isn't it? There are no HMD apps and only a very few device specific configurations made. I bet the code is the same as the Android GSI.
Am using Nokia 6.1plus 6gb version is this model have Q beta version??
No. Currently Android Q Developer Preview is only available for the Nokia 8.1. Nokia 6.1 plus might become the part of beta labs just like last year. 😊

is it good? gestures working great?
Gestures work flawlessly and much smoother than the gestures enabled via adb in beta 3
Does it still have the Snapdragon camera application ? Gcam working good like in Android 9 Pie ??
No, instead, we will have the fully functioning nokia camera. If you are still in beta 3, you should use gcam published for nokia 7 plus as it supports level 3 camera 2 api. In the beta 4, it supports lower level of camera 2 api so you can keep using gcam ported for poco f1, mi8, mi9
For which handsets the android Q will be available?
All Nokia smartphones that came with Android Oreo out of the box are eligible for receiving Android Q update. The update roll out should start once google officially releases Android Q and Nokia 8.1 will be the 1st Nokia smartphone to receive Android Q. Other devices will slowly start receiving the update and it will take few months to upgrade all devices to Android Q. 😊

only the Nokia 8.1 is part of the Q Beta Program.
ADP is now available for Pie users as well, no need anymore to be on Beta 3 before upgrading to Beta 5.
Happy testing,
Laura
EDIT:
OK, I find the file for Pie.
