Other brands: Let's sell good smartphones and make money.
HMD: We have a better idea - let's make phones like it's still 2000! Everybody will love them and buy them because we'll call them Nokia!

    Not gonna happen, HMD. 🙄

There is a big market for feature phones. Not everyone can afford a smartphone and even those who own a smartphone keep a secondary device for emergency purposes. Don't make fun of everything. If you think people don't buy featurephones then check out where HMD Global ranks in world feature phone market.

A very beautiful device which brings back the Magenta colour from the old Lumia days. 😁

@Kartik Gada you missed my point. I know HMD sells tonnes of dumbphones, but good smartphones make money on the long run, not dumbphones. And HMD don't even make them good.

There's plenty of money to be made in "dumb" phones, "feature" phones and "smart feature" phones.... this phone probably fits the "feature" phone category - it's not a dumb phone as it has plenty of apps.
    Cheers :)

Nothing just wanted to make a point.. Being a classic Nokia phone is it's only USP

Sorry, but it felt more like a taunt.  :D
The main USP of the Nokia 105 is its long battery life along with Cheap price, somewhat rugged design. This can also be a good emergency or a secondary phone. And this kind of phone doesn't need a high-speed connection as it will be mostly be used for calling which can be done on 2G. :) No one is currently focussed on bringing out such small phone with 4G or 5G support.

    Example from Indian market -->

JIO PHONE 1 has 4G, Kai OS, supports whatsapp, youtube, facebook, etc.
Cheap price of 1500 INR, decent battery, really Rugged design.. can be a really good secondary phone.. 4G support in a small phone

Nokia and cheap price doesn't go hand in hand

I am sure you haven't used a Jio Phone. If you would have used it you wouldn't have said this.
    JioPhone 1 - Price 1500
    Pros:
    VoLTE (but locked to Jio)
KaiOS (as it supports a few apps along with WhatsApp)
    Cons:
Keyboard starts giving issues within the 1st few weeks or months
    Lags like crazy
WhatsApp on S40 was much easier and snappier to navigate then the one on Jio Phone which comes with a better processor and 512MB RAM. WhatsApp lag and the issue with the keyboard make it even more troublesome

Not everyone is a Jio user so they need an alternative
When you can't have peace of mind while using a phone with so many bugs I don't know how can it be considered a good phone. My father loves his Nokia 150 more as it is much much much more responsive than his Jio Phone. I would prefer a snappier phone which can do what it says rather than a phone which says it can do everything but does nothing. :)

I have a JIO phone and its just next to me right now... It's the best feature phone I have used ever in my life.

JIO Phone now has 47% market share in Indian market. Yes not everyone uses Jio Phone but majority does. By April 2019, it was 30% which has risen to 47% by July 26,2019

Maybe you have the model which looks like 150. I have the one which was introduced later.

The report you shared is from July 2018 and not 2019. Here's the market report for Q1 2019 by Counterpoint.
    https://www.counterpointresearch.com/infographic-q1-2019-mobile-market-monitor/

As per this report Jio Phone shipments declined 59% yoy. Which suggests that those who bought it for the 1st time are fed up and aren't buying their devices anymore.  By next year I see the Jio Phone no where. Those who bought it just bought it because of the excitement and marketing push.

You are the 1st Jio Phone user from whom i heard some positive words for the device. I have asked every jio Phone user i have met about their experience with the phone and all of them (yes all) are unhappy and the main reason was their faulty keyboard.

All that I wanna add to this is that the Jio phone does not sell itself, its marketing sells it. The marketing was simple - bring old phone, pay some 501 more and take the new Jio phone. If it isn't already sweet, add the fact that even faulty phones (non working conditions) were also exchanged for a new Jio phone. As long as the device had battery and charger, the working condition was ignored.
Next up, add the fact that you will get free calls, a set of data, free texts and access to Jio services (music, live TV, Music, Magazine; etc) for a marginal price of 594. Summing that up, Jio phone didn't sell because it was a 4G enabled feature phone for Rs. 1500. It was sold in huge numbers because of the cheap bundled Jio services, voice and data package. The deal was too sweet to be missed. Even I was gonna exchange an old Nokia to get a Jio phone. Who would say no to a Rs. 1000 phone with free everything for 6 months? The social media buzz and the effectively free (use for 3 years, then get the cost back) campaign also did all the push for the phone.
The trend entirely changed when Jio Phone 2 was launched. Because likely at this point, Jio decided to no longer burn money and only sell it to the users who wanna buy it. The Jio Phone 2 came at double the cost and with no directly bundled plans. And the outcome is a significantly reduced number of sales. Now it is time for the Jio Phone 3, we will see how well it fares.
Jio Phone might have been a buzz, but I do not see it ever sold for its qualities. It was just the marketing that went behind it. The Reliance family has a tradition of selling it cheap (effectively free) and making money later on. Back in the year 2002, Reliance CDMA came, selling phones for a price of Rs. 500. Then Reliance GSM came, giving away free 10rs for over 90 days. We all know their fate today.

Sorry it was 2018. I mentioned it 2019. Sorry for it.

I don't know about users who gave negative words about Jio Phone but the persons(my friends, family members) I know, everyone seems satisfied at the best.

My point was not to compare it with JIO Phone. I just gave an example that there are 4G feature phones with better features under 2000 INR even.

Just my opinion, I don't see the point of launching a 2G phone. May be you guys can see a wider perspective of how good a 2G phone can be at this time, which I can't. Sorry.

I am sorry, not gonna say anything sort of such comparisons or anything related to price of Nokia phones ever in community. My comments, these days, are somewhat hateful towards Nokia and I am sorry. I have done it alot in the community. Nokia is new growing company I hope they remain the best smartphone brand.

    Cheers  :)

I see 2G phones this way. Nokia doesn't sell their phones only in India. Look at the bigger picture. They sell in many developing and under developed countries too. Not every person in such countries can afford costly 4g high speed internet packs. India is an exception where the prices are low thanks to Jio (still there are many out there who might not have need for these internet based services). These 2G phones are cheaper to build and use. So, many people do buy such devices and for many this is also their 1st phone. For example many elderly people might just want a baisc keypad phone which they can use to make and receive calls.

Coming to Jio Phone it is more like a bait to switch more people to use their network. Once they have enough people they stopped pushing their devices. And now Jio Phone is seeing a decline in feature phone market share. All those who switched to Jio Phone now have a 4G sim and most of them will just move to a smartphone as their jio phones are faulty. 😁

The 220 4G is cheap and sim-free, not locked to network (unless bought from a carrier or with a bundled deal). The hardware that is in it is probably not capable of running KaiOS as Linux requires too much memory and too high a spec processor. It could probably run S40, maybe even Symbian! But as we know they are gone forever...
    Cheers :)

Nokia 220 runs S30 which is very light and for basic tasks, I can guarantee that it will perform much faster than the KaiOS powered devices. As it also comes with a browser, users can surf whatever websites they want on a highspeed LTE network. Yes, the experience wouldn't be as feature-rich as on smartphones but it will be smooth and facebook app comes pre-installed which must be the lite version of their website. For me, a phone should be usable and if it is a feature phone the UI should be lite and snappy which S30 is.

Yes, it cannot come close to what S40 was but it is still better than what we currently have. :)

That's the only one around for feature phones and that's what they mostly use. So, i am guessing that it must be Opera Mini.

    Almost certainly Opera Mini.
It's actually S30+, no S30. Similar name, completely different underneath. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_30+
However, the 220 4G runs Smart Feature OS, not S30+.
And I now realise that I have got this thread mixed up, sorry! :D I thought it was about the 220 4G but it is about the 105.
    I think the 105 runs S30+.

It is similar to S30+. I am trying to find more about it but i cannot find anything as of now. All I could find was about S30+ which is now developed by HMD Global. Maybe Smart Feature OS is just an upgraded version of the S30+?

@HMD_Laura can you provide some details about the Smart Feature OS?

It might be just another random OS but it will run much smoother for a feature phone and won't be a resource hungry OS like KaiOS. I appreciate what HMD did with their new 4G feature phone. 😁

Ok, I just found that HMD updated the Spec Sheet of Nokia 220 4G and the OS name is now changed to Feature OS same as on the Nokia 3310 3G which also runs on Feature OS and not Smart Feature OS as we thought. This is powered by Java.

That's interesting, I wonder why they changed the name! (I'm sure that there isn't another OS called Smart Feature OS, they just removed the "Smart" bit!)

Nokia 105 is so durable that you can let a Panda sit on it and it will withstand its weight. 😆
Other features of the Nokia 105 can be seen in the image above. The new INK colour looks beautiful 😁
