Obviously then that HMD produce software updates that aren't upto UK carrier's standard. If they can't reach the standard then why don't they not sell in the UK. Save everyone the bother.
@Magicdesign how did you manually update your phone. I have been unable to even with following advice from Nokia Support staff. They don't understand. So please give us your method.
@Magicdesign I won't be trying this method. Not worth the hassle. I don't mind trying different SIM cards and safe mode etc but this just seems too risky. So I was right then not available in the UK. Thanks for posting anyway for those wishing to try...
At this rate I am going to throw my money at the iPhone9 (SE2). Haven't had an iPhone since the iPhone 6 however, it just worked. The honeymoon period ended very quickly with the Nokia 9. At this rate it's gonna be the quickest turnaround for a phone with me.
The irony being iOS 13 has been the worst iPhone update that I can remember. The mail app hasn't been working downloading/sending/notifying for months - so there is frustration on both sides.
The camera of the Nokia 9 keeps me coming back. After android 10, photo processing time was 18 seconds. Since the December and jan patch, it's just under 14 seconds.
It's bizarre because I have never had any issues with the camera. I have raw off, but even with raw on, it worked fine.
Try changing resolutions taking a few shots and then returning to the original resolution.
I cannot understand how some devices are fine and others are as bad as you describe - unless Nokia changed the hardware at some point in the manufacturing run.
Storm Ciara means I'm staying indoors and about to give this another go. Of course, turning it off and on again after the software was installed might have helped. I'll give it another whirl!
It's just so slow to do anything! There is always a few seconds delay when I try and action anything. Don't get me started on the camera rotate button. Just pressed it and it paused the animation when turning the camera to the front facing one. TEN SECONDS to swap the camera.
No one in 2020 has 10 seconds to spare when waiting for their camera to take that all too important selfie. ✌🏻
Do some more research on the error messages. Might be a driver missing. I didn't add any drivers, but one might have been installed previously from one of my older devices.
On the phone, you can also switch usb modes by swiping down (from file transfer to MIDI and a few others). Might be worth switching to MIDI as that might also add drivers to your pc.

It’s always been like this in the UK. Some phone brands get faster updates than others.
i don’t believe it’s a secret UK phone software update department that no one knows about.
Why only for 9PV? Other models doesn't seem to have this issue...

Ok. I was able to update the UK device with the missing updates. Very straight forward, but most online guides are not clear enough
You manually installed the updates?
I manually installed the December patch and then the Jan one arrived OTA seconds later

I'll write some proper notes later today and post on here.
I put the guide here:
Please be aware you are risking bricking your device. I am not an expert

I tried but, the update files don't work on Nokia 9 model TA-1087 😐️
Mine is 1082. Not sure if that is regional.
Did you make sure you got the next patch (rather than skipping ahead to January patch?)
Hmmmm do I want to totally bork my borked phone? Maybe not right now, but thanks for posting the guide.
Yeah - I know that feeling. I was feeling lucky.
I was trying to install the Android 10 update...😅
I love when they don't want to answer you they pretend their busy.
@youhippy . I had a similar response about a huge number of people online. I said that isn't very good as it means a lot of phone need attention 😄
I got as far as STEP 10.
Typing in to search for devices it then goes to a blank line. I've stopped for now.
When I typed adb devices it spat out a number (can't remember the detail right now) and then waited for the next command
This stage is an extra check to make sure it doesn't say 'no devices found' (or something similar)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb devices
List of devices attached
* daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037
could not read ok from ADB Server
* failed to start daemon
error: cannot connect to daemon
I guess this is a sign to just stop.
Yes - agreed - I didn't get that.
Just searching the error messages, I thought this gave some interesting feedback
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7327147/adb-error-cannot-connect-to-daemon
This is why, sometimes I say f* ** it and put the android device in the drawer and get the iPhone out again.

The camera is just too painful for me now. I hardly bother with it any more.
It does seem to be the A10 update that's caused some sort of block on the security patch? My thoughts on the issue anyway.

I just want to check something. The OTA update that you download. It ends up being a very long file name. Do you change this to ota.zip?
So it's like this?
Then I drop this in to the folder like so?
Yes. That's what I did
