April MR + SP (Not officially out)

In Brazil we only have Samsung that has a personalized interface and Motorola, I understand that it (Nokia) is late with the Android 10 correction solution but look at the situation we are in, we do not know how many people on the staff are out of work, if are complaining about Nokia, I suggest trying a Motorola and then you will see how much more upset you will be when you just win an Android version in addition to the one that comes with a security update every 3 months.

They only can blame themselves for the decline in sales. Nothing against them charging a premium over other phones with similar specs IF they keep the updates on time. For me, and probably a lot more, on time is not the same month but worst-case scenario 1 week after release from Google. If you fail to deliver that, you only will get my money once.
I only bough a Nokia device because I didn't feel like spending the 800€ or something like that for a Pixel or a OnePlus as the closest second. Could have gone with a Xiaomi but I already know the shitshow that they are with the updates and wasn't going to risk it.
Nokia also has too many models. 2years of existence and there are around 30 devices available over at Nokia.pt. Then you wonder why you can't keep up with support ?!?
My product stack for Nokia would be something like, 1 or 2 feature phones and 4 smartphone brackets
- one halo product (800 series snapdragon) ~ 8xx€
- one flagship (700 series snapdragon) ~ 5xx€
- one mid tier (600 series snapdragon) <= 400€
- one entry level (400 series snapdragon) <= 200€
Essential would be the right company for people like me, but they took too long to release a follow up to the Essential Phone and ended up dying probably because of that.

What's with GCam in new May MR update?
0 -
For me, the signal reception has significantly improved after April SP.
Can anybody confirm the same ?
0 -
I can't confirm on 7+ but on my other device which got the April update does prove that the signal reception has improved.
0 -
Wifi signal or LTE? It's better with May MR then that of April
1 -
Vendor image isn't updated so you require to restart the device after few shots and Bluetooth HD audio bug is still there.
0 -
LTE. I kinda currently stuck in a weak signal area. Before April patch, the network was always low and 4G speeds were terrible.
Now the network is always full from the moment I updated to April SP and also 4G speeds are good
1 -
Or maybe the network provider has improved something in your area ?? Because for me yesterday during calls it was repeatedly going into VoWifi mode which I haven't seen happening in a while because LTE network in my area is quite good and I have kept calls settings to be preferably on LTE rather than WiFi.

Maybe

That's what some people never seem to think about. It's not only OS/Nokia/HMD, Google pushes updates frequently too. E. g., Carrier Services which butters up mobile connection circumstances. There was just an update a couple of days ago...

Jokes apart, it's clear that there's a bit of mess in developing images for Nokia 7 Plus, 6.1 and maybe 7.1 that belongs to the same hardware family (correct me if I'm wrong).
Updating the AOSP baseline needs a rebase on your code eventually. Updating drivers, if they are expressed like software dependencies in their images, is more or less a straightforward operation inside a build descriptor (I don't know how Qualcomm release drivers to vendor but I'm sure that Nokia will use some build tools where dependencies are expressed in descriptors like Gradle or Maven).
So if you are aware that you have a bug due to thid part code and that a new version has been releaed by the owner of this third part software, it's not a nightmare to fix this. Ok you need time, you need to test again of course....but in this scenario is not impossible to release an hotfix.
When have AOSP and Qualcomm been updated their binary-codebase to fix this issues? Did they take most of the last 5 months? I don't think so. I suspect it's more about dev team that forgot to check the new release and the changelog.
6 -
I agree but they would have to re do whole android 10 and that would have delayed rollout and people will go crazy that they aren't pushing update according to road map
2 -
if there are upstream fixes, why drag the pull ?!?
The longer you delay the updates, greater the pain. And if for some reason you're applying fixes to AOSP code, you should submit them so I really don't see why it's so hard to keep the source up to date ...

Ahh na ja enough with the rage, and pointless bragging .Just ordered new phone, now I know Nokia is no more for me. I only hope nokia goes bankrupt because they don't deserve nothing more, nothing less. They still keep bootloader locked. This device had such a potential but they **** up so badly.

My two cent opinion:. maybe they take back the development of images from FIH to their dev team now in Germany. I read that this team is doing the all the phased rollout of images and more test activities....I think they are doing some development too imho (at least I really hope so). Otherwise I can't imagine why they acted in a such way. I remember last year when Nokia 7 Plus was one of the phone that could install Android 9 DP images....from a somewhat great experience (ok, not really a bug free one) to a really bad one with Android 10
1 -
It's actually been the opposite for me. I used to get 4G+ network. All I get now is more loading time for webpages, and no 4G+, only 4G.
Dunno what changed, but probably Carrier Aggregation is not working propertly.

So any major issue found on the May build? Can we pin some hopes that MR can be released this month?
0 -
Hai @AniketThakur ,
Can you share about details (your experience ) stability of May build ?
Does you still face random restarts ?
Thanks 🙂
0 -
First half of May has passed. No new MR, more than 6 months with a bugged Android 10 image, no hotfix, no AOSP code rebase.... #keepsgettinbetter !
6 -
Yes, but quite reduced in comparison to April
2 -
I think that we all agree on the fact they should not release a build with random restart. I prefer waiting a few more months but please DO NOT RELEASE another build with major bugs unfixed.
7 -
The speed at which they are addressing issues, I fear they will stop providing updates at a point where the device is not without a major bug.
1 -
I hope they will do at least one AOSP source code rebase and fix most of bug before official support ends.
1 -
I need proper vendor image then I'm off to 11 gsi
3 -
Bluetooth sound problems still in? That includes the equalizer bug? Ouch! I'm looking forward and waitin patiently for this MR hoping for this equalizer and sound bugs be fixed. That's the only hope i have why I'm not giving up to this phone. I am planning to go back to the "more popular brand" becauseof these bugs esp the sound bugs. I use my phone a lot listening to music and podcasts but after Android 10 update which I am lookin forward, its all messed up. My sound experience was broken. I really like this phone and I don't wat to give up on this.
3 -
Or at least they provide a bootloader unlock. Independent devs are there to fill in the gaps of not fixing those bugs. At least we have the choice to choose which custom OS we should use.

Happily switched to another brand, No more buggs no more screen freezes, regular updates, fixes. Smooth experience without any annoying major bugs... Goodbye Nokia, you were leader in the phone industry end of 90s and early 2000s. But now you have became piece of crap. This was the most annoying experience I ever had with an smartphone company.. And i have owned Samsung, Motorola, Sony, Huawei and never had so unpleasant experience ever before... This one was the worst. I just hope noone buys your prducts anymore because you don't give a damn about your customers.
6 -
OMG do not even suggest to do such a thing! Leaving a customer base with a bugged build forgot about them it's a crazy thing. Why don't spend a few tweets to Nokia mobile and Sarvikas about this thread? This is the best way to influence them imho

I don't understand what kind of fools are here who disagree with such general observations. If you want to keep licking Nokia/HMDs backside, then keep doing so. Their sales numbers state otherwise.
