[Update 28/04/20] Android 10 on Nokia 8 Sirocco

Today, I had the issue again with the fingerprint sensor not working and "stalling" the phone. It seems to be connected to the use of the camera app, interestingly, because it appeared 3 times when I used the camera app before standby. The last two days I did not use the camera and everything was fine with the sensor.

I will monitor this, but something is seriously wrong here.

What are you doing in that case? Just using the camera, closing it and letting the phone lock itself?

Use the camera and lock the phone manually with the app running?

Or are you using the cam, and the phone locks itself eventually, while the app is active?

Play Store works perfect after factory reset, and camera app (Nokia native app) too. I can say my mobile was like a **** before factory reset and became a piece of gold after reset. I use it every day, about 10 hours for day (because staying home by covid) and it has never random reboot after reset (before, it was daily). Factory reset is the key.

I did the factory reset and I still have not reproducible problems with WiFi, fingerprint sensor (sometimes no responding/sometimes very slow responding), camera App (sometimes no picture is in the internal storage and/or videos) and other apps. So my mail app had a black bar in the middle of screen until I restarted. Another App always showed a command menu, even though the command was already executed and the menu should disappear. Actually the Nokia 8 Sirocco ist unreliable in many situations and it is not my job as a customer, to solve this. We are talking about a stable android system and not a testing debian linux.

None of the problems you say happens to me in my Sirocco. It could be the manufacturing lot, but I can say and confirm I am not suffering any of the bugs you talk about. Your case is a matter of bad luck, mate 😔

I see it different. It's not bad luck , it's a non-functional Cellphone, bought August 2019 for several hundred Euros.

This is a repost of mine from another thread... I'm that dissatisfied with the update.

We waited for Android 10, on first premium Hmd Nokia, for quite a long time and now when we get it they cripple the camera by disabling RAW support!

I went for the Sirocco from iPhone SE, I wanted a premium Android with good software support and good hardware. Nokia and Android one were the best choice, or so I thought. I see now that this is just a marketing scheme. I mean, Nokia first updated the 7, 7+, 6,...and only now the most expensive of the Nokia's and with all that extra time they took they couldn't do it wright!

For me this is unacceptable, I hope this is an honest mistake and will be resolved soon with an update. If we don't get better Android 10 with camera, Wi-Fi and other bugs resolved in the next update I am selling my sirocco and will never again buy Nokia from Hmd.

my bugfix is that i got a mi 9t. what can I say, brilliant camera, gcam can also be installed, VoLTE, WLAN Call, an Android 10 that works. That's exactly why Nokia sales are slumping. But Nokia only wants business customers anyway, I'm just curious what business customers will say about such updates. Bye Nokia.

Gcam android Go version apk works. It has less functions, but it worth to try, surely better than nokia camera. I advise, search for this temporary solution.

Anyway , I stay on android 9, till the time I can stay. Strong WiFi and Gcam are important features.

I don't seem to be having any major issues, only thing I am not liking is the tap to translate floating icon does not disappear and this is a known security issue not specific to this model. I do think Android 10 is using more RAM than Android 9 however and this is a concern as reports are that it generally is better with memory management.

New bugs:

Random reboot, happened once so far;

Trusted devices don't work always;

Fingerprint reader can be very buggy and phone hangs after error;

If I exit an app on back button and go to homescreen and then try to go to that same app thru recent apps the phone freezes for a couple of seconds.

Along with other issues, my phone had exactly same issue as yours after the upgrade. It made my phone useless. After struggling with the annoying issues for almost a month, I had to pay someone I found on the Internet to unlock my phone's bootloader and downgraded it back to Android 9. Now my phone is great again! In light of the poor experience with the way Nokia handling the Android 10 upgrade, I will no upgrade my Nokia 8 Sirocco to Android 10 again.

People should contact support about these issues. There is no evidence that they read the forum (even @HMDLaura carefully ignores any mentions), so if no one complains, they're obviously never going to fix them.

I did contact them last week about 5 issues (terrible WiFi, worse battery life, fingerprint-unlock to black screen, ghost notifications, glance screen elements brightness). They are either

1. adamant about doing a factory reset

2. promise that these forums are read and update is in the works, "be patient"

3. "Android is made by Google"

I'm not holding my breath :(

Response to 3 should be "this is not a problem with other Android 10 devices, whether they be Nokia or other brands".

This is probably the first time ever that I am in no hurry to update my device, I've been reading nothing but issues with the Android 10 update for Nokia 8 Sirocco!

They could and should at least release the security updates! Mine are from March!

I told them that I don't want to do a factory reset because numerous people have done it and it doesn't help - got a "sorry you don't want to proceed with troubleshooting" response.

And of course I told them I'm aware that these are Sirocco-specific issues and even though "Android is made by Google" HMD has their part in adapting it to a particular device.

I tried to persuade them to escalate those issues and file them as bugs (as many people are experiencing them), I don't feel I was particularly successful.
