Just recieved my phone back from Nokia (Ireland to iQor Hungary) in under a week. There is a visible piece of metal around the charging port, I'm not sure if this is to keep it from moving, hopefully it helps my issue. Have many people had issues with their charging port after it returning from repair?
Don`t let me regret on the decision of remaining loyal with the company . I really felt sorry for those who bought nokia 7 plus on my opinion . This phone is not bad if you solve the charging jack issue . My phone is just one year old and is just like new ...but it is of no use if it is not get charging . I am among the first customer who bought this . Please help me in providing the solution . I don`t want to regret on my decision. Help!!!!!!
Can u please confirm this where u read this news ? As i asked care center they said there is no such information.
Such problems kills your enthusiasm... knowing I have to take the phone for repairs before it gets solved.... It will go a long way if Nokia admits such issues; at least we will know that they will take care of it in their future phones.
For those also stuck with a failing USB port on the Nokia 7 Plus, this might work for you too:
I also have a 7+ that started having charging issues after a couple of months. In the beginning I could get it charging by putting some light pressure on the cable and/or balancing it all on small block of wood etc... but in the end it failed completely. I sent the phone to Nokia but they refused to fix it because the screen had a crack and that needed repairing first (186 euro!).
Disappointed I had the phone returned as-is and ordered a 'magnetic' USB-C cable online. When I got it I plugged in said new cable but it did not work; turned it 180 degrees around but again nothing. I then cut 2 small strips of paper (100g/m2) and slid them inside the female part of the USB-connector on one side and then pushed everything into the phone-port thus forcing one side of the 'tongue' to make better contact. Didn't work. Pulled it out again and turned it around and and hurray!, it started charging. I then put a lot of glue around the whole situation (while everything was still connected and charging) and let it sit overnight. This morning the battery was at 100% and I was able to disconnect the magnetic part while the 'plug' is now glued tight inside the phone. I used glue that becomes very hard once cured and yes, it sticks out a couple of mm now but it all fits nicely in the phone case I've been using.
The downside is that it refuses to fast-charge; presumably because only half of the connector-pins are actually connecting, but even a couple of hundred of mA are enough to charge it while I'm sleeping; worst case I'll have to switch it off completely to make sure every watt goes into the battery.
So tip: if your phone starts having this issue and you can't send it back under warranty for some reason (e.g. cracked screen); buy a magnetic cable ASAP and use glue to make it 'part of the phone'.
PS: This probably is a one-way operation, if it starts failing on me again I'll have to cut it open 'from the bottom' and try to solder the thing back on... not looking forward to that but still better than throwing it into the trash.
Adding some pictures to better explain the 'paper strips' part (pic 1 & 2). Note that this is a 'simulation' on the original cable as the magnetic plug now is glued to the phone so I can't disconnect that one anymore (pic3), but I guess you'll get the idea.
I had this trouble time ago but I thought that it was my fault because I pulled the phone with the cable plugged in so strongly. Firstly it made minor fails but then it become a major trouble. Fortunately the technical service fixed it in warranty.
When I received back the phone I bought a magnetic cable just to prevent the connector from wear and accidental pulls. It is not perfect because the magnet is not too strong and looses easily (and could make the compass fail), but if you leave the phone in a static position it charges and transfers data correctly.
I have been recommending Nokia in my business role and also personally, but I won't any more.
I sent my 7 Plus back with this exact charging issue but otherwise in completely perfect working order, in very very good condition, everything working normally, no drops or damage, and I got the below;
"Your Nokia 7 plus has been assessed by our technician and found to be out of warranty.

This is a cop-out and they are avoiding fixing this issue for me.
I rejected the quote out of frustration but maybe I should have taken it further.
