It is same for most of the phones out there(not sure about pixel devices). My device Nokia 5.1plus's google play system update shown green yesterday night but today it turned red . For this the main components update (google play system update ) as apk is there in apkmirror website . I saw it in the google pixel community where this problem exist there too from may . I have successfully installed it in my device and now it shows 1st September 2020 .
If u wish to install the update go to the website and download the apk and install through google files or any other file manager u have . If u don't want to take risk then wait for the update .may be it may take time (too long).
Yes , this too included . Few days after(from the change of color to red) the play protect certificate shows device is not certified . This is reported by the pixel users in the pixel community once the problem persisted between may patch to the arrival of july patch . If i am wrong , sry for the mis-info. : )
After few days (after the change in color of G play system update ) , the play protect certificate would show device is not certified , that's what it is reported in the pixel community by pixel users and some of oneplus users too i suppose.

Thank you : )
No, not everyone. Mine is working perfectly 😊
Same over here.
Same "issue" is reported from other phones as well.
The red symbol means nothing but that the component (Google Play System) is more than 2 months old.
It shouldn't cause any problems or issues of any kind.
No there will be a problem.
The play protect cerfication will fail and shows that the device is not certified.
Hmmm, strange..
I just updated my bank cerfificates without issues.
Edit; Tried (almost) all apps with logon/security and couldn't find anything that fails.
👍🤞
Nope. I don't think so..🤔
Play certification depends on many factors like presence of root permission, system integrity, and many such security layers..
Thanks for the info, I never knew I could get the play services update this way
