Where is security patch of october for nokia 8.1?
It is not rolled out yet. It isn't the end of month yet and there's still time for them to release it :) Let's see when the final rollout happens.
In september 2020 month, they released the security path in first week. For October 2020 month, they are taking much time. Can't wait any more to get the security update for my Nokia 8.1. HMD Team, please expedite your procedure for the monthly security update
When will i get monthly security update in my Nokia 8.1
October update needed
It's almost the end of Oct 2020 and we're still left with sep security update. Is the most promised upto date software is lagging behind all. Even Vivo phones are in the market with latest Android 11 and we've not yet been provided the promised security updates for the month.
Why is it needed? Is the software that bug riddled that you NEED the security update? What is the obsession with getting the monthly security update? If Android had been written better in the first place (and HMD using the newer codebase not the original, hence no 3rd party launcher gesture support) we wouldn't need all these monthly updates.
I would trade the monthly security update for quarterly schedule (which Google thinks is enough for even enterprises). That's only 4 security update release in year instead of 12. And want +1 year of OS upgrade in return 🙂
Why the obsession with security updates?? Properly written software would not need continual updates. Anyway the October update is now available so you can all stop crying about it now.
October security update is still not provided. It's end of the the October. I think HMD forgot Nokia 8.1 model
It is out but needs firmware 00WW_4_30H even though the latest release is 00WW_4_31A and will therefore not install.
Nokia should provide 3 Android updates for flagships,
As same announced by other OEM's already,
That would be better user recognition from HMD.
Mine updated last night (UK)
What build of Android do you have? Is it 00WW_4_31A?
No it is 00WW_30B_SP07
Interesting, I have 00WW_4_31A and the October patch won't install as it requires 4_30H
My original one failed on the charging port back in March and they just replaced handset so i don't know if that has anything to do with it. That said i cannot see the Carphone Warehouse replacing it with anything other than another UK SIM free one.
With same build my Nokia 8.1 haven't received update in India
It's just that no software code can be written today which can ensure security to the vulnearable codes created tomorrow, if any. Seems you're going out of the context about the prmoised 3 years security updates in Android one program.
Oh I'm not out of any context and I totally agree that you can't predict the future. Not sure what you mean by 'vulnerable codes created tomorrow' means, are you saying that code is specifically written to have vulnerabilities and therefore need patching? bit of a conspiracy there.
It was proven back in the 1950s that no software can ever be free of any vulnerabilities, but all these monthly updates simply patch issues that are uncovered in the original code. The 3 years of security updates are simply there to keep patching the issues they find in the existing code.
Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 8.1 receiving October Security update 2020 now | Nokiapoweruser https://nokiapoweruser.com/nokia-5-3-and-nokia-8-1-receiving-october-security-update-2020-now/amp/
Dont know whether its true or not.....i hven't recieved oct update
That article is a week old and the patch requires 4_30H firmware version whereas if you have version 4_31A then it won't install.
Well what do you know, the November security patch is now out for Indian customers.......
Those who got struck in build version 4_31A check your device now. I too had this problem and directly received November security update.
I am still waiting for the October (and November) update on my 8.1. My wife's 8.1 received both.
Nokia support told me to reset the phone to factory settings, still doesn't show any update.
