I don't want to buy one unless I know it's compatible.

Found the answer myself. It does not support HDMI output.
Yeah it if the device has output via USBc but it has to be the right USB to HDMi lol which no one tells you. Or no one really knows.. most offer it on flag ship phones. Which is just dumb..
I use cast from my phone to my Amazon firestick, just go into settings,connected devices & select connection preferences & enable cast. On the firestick long press on 🏠 button & select mirroring 👍
The answer is YES, i am using this thing for my 7.2
It's not a passive cable but an active adapter which need power supplied from a usb port to run.
To run it you need to active usb debuging in developer option and then download an app. It run smooth with my home projector via hdmi port.
Or you can use wifi if your projector device support it, or not you can consider a wireless cast device but it's not cheap like the above one.
