  • I tried it out, and it worked fine on my Nokia 5.3. In addition, I was able to install the May 1, 2022 security patch and the July 1, 2022 update without any problems. It automatically updated, so no more work was required. It's effective!

This was completed on Linux on my end. It's also possible to accomplish this with Mac or Windows.

First, I recommend removing the sim card and doing a factory reset on the phone. WHY? The Nokia ROM has certain unique features. What I mean is that the ROM doesn't feel fully realised. Most of their system programmes are 0 bytes in size if you finish the setup process without a data connection (including no Wi-Fi). The ROM was created so that updates could be downloaded and installed automatically whenever a user connected to the internet. If you set up your phone initially without any data, the features you choose to turn off won't occupy any memory at all.

  • To disable all of Nokia's HMD Global system software on your Nokia 5.3, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the "Settings" app on your Nokia 5.3.
    2. Scroll down and select "Apps & notifications".
    3. Under "See all apps", locate and select the first HMD Global system app that you want to disable. For example, "My Phone".
    4. On the app info screen, select "Disable" to disable the app.
    5. Repeat steps 3-4 for each HMD Global system app that you want to disable.

Note that disabling some HMD Global system apps may cause certain features or functions of your phone to stop working properly. Additionally, some system apps cannot be disabled, as they are required for the proper functioning of your phone. So, exercise caution and only disable apps that you are certain you do not need.

If you want to enable any of the disabled apps in the future, you can follow these steps again, and select "Enable" on the app info screen.
