Why does my Phone screen goes dark?

My phone screen quite often when I unlock, does not show home screen but stays dark and when I try to power lock and unlock it goes to emergency call without screen getting on. Only after some fudging with power button does it come on.

I wonder if your power button is malfunctioning. Because an emergency call should be 3 quick presses of the power button. Which phone do you have? What happens if you use the double tap to wake the screen or fingerprint feature instead of using the Power button?

I have nokia G21. If I double tap the screen it stays dark and does not respond. I long press the power button , still no response. Only after some panicked pressing does screen come on but it is on emergency call waiting for me to disconnect. Phone does function but in a locked screen mode and I can't see.

That's a strange behavior. One thing I can suggest is to try restarting the phone in Safe Mode. Safe mode disables 3rd party apps, so, would be a good way to know if something is wrong with the system or if a 3rd party app is causing that interference of a blank screen.

If that does not help, then maybe backing up your data and doing a factory reset will be of use?

Actually it is a random phenomenon, even if I start in safe mode, it does not guarantee behaving in the same way. It happens at random times.
