@Jimmmy we all wish for fixes, but sadly Laura's announcement seemed to only refer to the March security patch, exclusively.
I'm taking the announcement itself with a pinch (plus an extra truckload) of salt. May be just filthy lies, after all everything they said so far has been 99% trolling bs. Akin to scams, basically.
Tl;dr: HMD gets zero expectations, zero trust from me.
Unpopular opinion, for sure, but I gotta vent (or I'll soon get a prescription for a lovely tight shirt with long sleeves): I see people actually still getting excited by such announcements from HMD... Have we not seen their true filthy troll face by now? Better than nothing, ofcourse, but I cannot see how these fossils baptised in the Microsoft ways can ever change!

I think you are right to be sceptical, i am just keeping quiet and waiting to see what comes but recent history hasn't left me optimistic.
Laura posting was just a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe HMD are willing to do a bit more talking. Surely it is in their best interests and they would get a lot less grief over it. When they post something on twitter at the minute it is all a bit buckle up and sit tight waiting for the tirade of anti HMD comments and that cannot be good for business. That said their are seemingly millions of **** kissing sheep that seem to fawn over every word said so maybe it isn't as harmful as i am saying it is.
@mrbelter unfortunately those sheep are drowning complaints, sometimes even ridiculing those complaining, out of blind "faith" in the Nokia name. A guy commented on Twitter speculating that HMD seem to prepare to only sell in India and surrounding Asian markets, reasoning that they've kinda failed elsewhere. That wouldn't surprise me to become a reality. If only they'd fix their software mess before melting into irrelevance...

It's because HMD messed up only Nokia 8 which holds just a minor share of their sold devices. That's why they ignored Nokia 8 issues it in the first place. But this situation won't last much longer. Sirocco and Nokia 9 owners are now starting to feel HMD's lack of support and respect. When autumn comes all those low and mid range phone owners will be in the same or similar situation as we are now in.
@potemkin Twitter is full of people complaining of all kind of problems in absolutely each and every model that HMD has ever launched. It's a general state of affairs, it's the HMD attempt at business that drowned itself in a ton of devices seemingly designed and produced in a rush, to rapidly climb the ladder of fame and relevance. Now it is biting their throats (Sirocco chewed their áss soon after launch, so the throat was the next logical target)

If you read the comments on Twitter they are coming from the owners of seemingnly every device HMD has ever released.

You guys are right. This current Nokia brand (HMD) has nothing to do with the original Nokia. Neither the quality of the services or products and the philosophy of the original Nokia company. I take it as a brand new company with only the Nokia name. It is unheard of how many errors their new products have, especially the high-end segment. Nokia 8, Nokia 9 PureView...too many software bugs. In this way Nokia does not have a chance to cope or at least, slowly catch up with other brands. For me, I bought Nokia 8 and it was a mistake, so that was my last purchase HMD product.
Sorry guys: May I kindly remind you that this is the "Compass-not-working-since Pie-thread" and not a "I-express-my-general-dissatisfaction-with-HMD-thread" (of which there are unfortunately quite a few in the meantime ...)?!
@HMD_Laura I want to point out that I would also like to see a bit more communication from your side (and bug fixes of course!), but that I don't approve of the sometimes very personal verbal attacks against HMD and its employees at all!
i think one-time issue is not meaning of compass issue or etc. its about something about security updwte thing hmd will not solve compass issue anymore.
Thanks! I had exactly the same plan, but I haven't made it yet. Please keep us up to date about the further progress.
Sure, i have to wait, but no longer than about about 16 days
Update from me.........I have successfully claimed this issue at the seller with the result - I have been fully refunded my purchase. The weird thing is that the seller is one of the biggest eshop in Slovakia and they rather solve the claim with the refund, as they would argue with the customer (me) and risk the penalty of not solving the claim in 30 days (according to our law) while Nokia Service point still did not provide any update what is happening with my phone, and what is the worst, they did not even send the phone back to seller until now. Very bad and sad Nokia, this is how you care?
Crossing my fingers for you guys, and you soon receive the bug fixes. I`m ending on this forum, my bugy Nokia is gone, I have already sold my soul to completely another comapny brand.
@LubosBaca great news, finally relieved of HMD scam. I'll do the same if the device won't become close to the perfection that the shameless lying hyena trolled us with back in October.
@wild50 others may have their problems too, I agree, nobody's perfect. But at least others won't torture your mind with such BS as shamelessly and perpetually as these scams! Personal point of view, of course.
For every fellow scammed buddy on this forum: if by any chance I'll get banned before the end of the month for my lack of refrain in expressing my views, I wish you all to find a satisfying resolution to the HMD trap (or however you perceive it personally) and thanks for not boo-ing me excessively for my outbursts. It was all targeted to the scammers.
@martin.fd Yes, HMD gives us no informations. And, her service and support is more than bad. 😡
But "Laura" ist not HMD, and she doesn't work for HMD, too.
She is ONLY a mod in this community/ forum. She makes, what she can do. And, I'm afraid/ believe, that she has same informations from HMD than we. Perhaps she gets informations, when they come from HMD, as a first. Then she can inform us. But, this was it. More she can't do, too.
On-topic: update: compass not working on Android 9, still working on all previous version of the Android OS which have been available for the 8, including 8.1, which my phone is still running because I decided not to upgrade until the compass and geotagging are fixed.
Off-topic: I read a lot about people "leaving Nokia" and going to other brands where they are sure they will feel less disappointed. I think that is mainly because they will not have such high expectations of other brands, except possible Apple, Google and Samsung (maybe also Motorola, LG and Sony). For now, I'm sticking with the phone I have because it works very well (but note the point above) and to get another phone of equivalent capability I'll have to spend a lot more than I could ever sell this phone for second-hand.
Hi @user1508938037450 as far as I know HMD_Laura does work for HMD; maybe not directly, maybe as a contractor, but certainly paid in some way (at least I hope so!).

Hi! I solved my issues downloading the app "Stato GPS" from the Play Store. It's basically an app that every 15 minutes forces the phone to download A-GPS packages again. I know it's not a permanent solution, but now the phone is usable again.
Concerning your point about "high expectations" I totally agree on that, and I'm currently writing about the same problem that is affecting Nokia 9 PureView in my next review. The problem, as you've already highlighted, is the enormous hype that the phone generated. Everyone was expecting miracles from its camera compartment, but, in the end, it's just a premium smartphone that holds up really well with the competitors.
Stay tuned if you want to read my next review, which is just about photography itself.

A-GPS is just the location of the satellites to improve lock times, it has nothing to do with finding magnetic north or south and wont help the compass.
@Francesco Bacchini The problem with the compass has his reason in Android Pie and in the "development-work" of HMD. I don't know one app, who makes it better and solved this problem. A user in a other thread tested "STATO GPS", too (when I remembered me correctly), and it was the same. All here are hopeful and wait on the "update" THIS WEEK. 😎 We will see. 🙄
And, yes, 8 and 9 have BOTH problems with the camera-app, and the only words from HMD are "coming soon, please wait". 😜 That's all. We will see, what this week will bring. 🙄
But, when you write here the 9 Pure View ist a "firstclass-smartphone", "eye in eye" with the flagships of Samsung, Huawei and so on, I can't understand it. I don't know one test-report with good results for the 9 Pure View, especially the camera-app.
And here we can return to the Nokia 8 with the same results. 😒😒😒
GPS Status and similar apps didn't worked. Also, downloading of A-GPS data won't help .If the developers do not finally intervene and the repair does not come, nothing of the any software will help. Honestly, this endless waiting for compass repair is no longer fun for me.
The user buys an expensive (at the time of purchase) smartphone and has to deal with a malfunctioning compass and searching web for instructions for roll-back to Oreo to make it work while people normally go to work and have no time for things like that. It's absolutely ridiculous.
@Jimmmy your second paragraph landed on my soul, that's exactly my struggle, it even affected my productivity to a rather visible negative margin, people keep asking me if i have any serious health issues or such... All while I'm anxiously checking for f-ing updates with f-ing fixes that seem farther and farther from the realms of possibility...
if hmd will not solve this problem in this weeks update i will send my device to service for it. İf they will not solve there is only choice for them is refund...

But none of the them has (at the top level) juho sarvikas with longstanding mantra "...soon.... very soon..."

This all is a HMD-PROBLEM. 😡😡😡

Even if this was a low range smartphone, it would be inexcusable to have to wait for a fix this long. It's 2019, this is basic feature!!
