Nokia 6.1 plus charging port issue and liquid damage

Nokia used to build sturdy phones, but not anymore. Im facing an issue with nokia 6.1 plus usb c charging port. Its lose and doesnt charge after connecting. I was sure that i could get this done free under waranty. My phone was examined and I was told that it is a liquid damage(with some green spot). If a careful user like me faces such an issue, i wonder how this phone is a nokia phone which once produced 8110 and 3310. I was told to pay as although the loose charging port is a manufacturing defect, the so called liquid damage is what makes the damage and not the lose charging port. It is irritating to adjust the phone at a certain angle, wasting 5-10 mins. And when you pick it up after a while, it doesnt charge, instead gets discharged.

If at all the nokia cnokia community is strong. I hope this discussion is upvoted and also nokia gives an appropriate reason and a solution.

  • Hello Vaibhav,
"Same cheating happened with me, Service center people said liquid damage out of warranty to a software issue"
I have bought nokia 6.1 plus recently on 18th of march 2019, just 20 days back.
Yesterday (08th april, 2019) when I took it out of my pocket at around 9 pm it was showing white screen with android one in center and and "download mode"written on top left. I tried to reset but nothing was happening so i took it to service center next morning.
Service center people took my phone and after checking told me that your phone has got liquid damage (Showing me some green spots, marking corrosion) and because of which it will not be repaired under warranty. The executive told that phone is dead and has damage on main board, they wiil try repair it and if they succeed it will cost Rs. 2200 to Rs 15000 anything.
I swear that my phone has never came into contact with water or any liquid.
How can I accept that my phone has liquid damage when I knew that it was not mishandled.

It has came to this position on regular day to day use.
Further, let suppose if it has been dropped in water or water has been dropped on it, then I would have not dried it under sun for atleast one day and then take it to service center the other day.But I have reach service center the next morning.
I believe that NOKIA DEVICES ARE NOT SO FRAGILE THAT DAY TO DAY USAGE MAKES THEIR MAIN BOARD GOES OFF.
AND IF IT IS SO THEN COMPANY SHOULD BEAR THE LOSS NOT THE CUSTOMER.
  • Service center denied warranty citing that my phone has got liquid damage( showing some green marks) (according to them it is of corrosion) and it will not be covered under warranty anymore, It will be better for you to read Warranty conditions, relevant extract of which is reproduced as below (Obtained from official nokia site) (i want to ask how can something corrode in 20 days.)

"Manufacturer does not provide any Warranty for the following:

    A. When the Product is used in a way that is different from its ordinary use, such as: a) errors or damages caused by: i) exposure to damage resulting from liquid outside of the approved levels, to extreme electromagnetic field (such as damages caused by microwave oven), to dampness, to extreme thermal or environmental conditions or to rapid changes in such conditions, corrosion, oxidation, spillage of food or liquid, or to influence from chemical products,.................................................."

Thus, clear interpretation of this is

    1. Warranty covers damages, provided, phone has been used in its ordinary use and not mishandled.

    2. Damage from liquid will be covered, provided, the resulting damage is from liquid outside and which is beyond the approved levels.

Since, my phone has never came into contact with any liquid so it must not be having a damage that is to be considered under " damage is from liquid outside and which is beyond the approved levels".

I accept that if technician is saying phone has got liquid damage then it may be true but, as I have already mentioned several times that I cannot accept that, the said liquid has gone from outside and it is beyond the approved levels, since It is being used by me and there is no such incident.

As per the above my phone is covered under warranty as per the terms and conditions, and thus I will not bear any expense and I want a new phone since it is just 30 days old phone and has been detected with mother board damage issue, whose repair is not considered durable.
  • I have read numerous complaints similar to mine on Amazon, flipkart, Nokia community.
Nokia service centre has been blatantly denying citing liquid damage showing some green dots.
All people could not speak lie, its manufacturing fault in nokia phones. Nokia is damaging it's brand for such small issues.
In my case although the executive told Mother board problem, however it appears to be a software problem. Phone has just got hang, Its stuck in that download mode android one screen, it cannot be a liquid damage. (Shown my phone's condition in market they were of the same opinion that its software issue)

Please don't play with our hard earned money, I will not tolerate and will take this issue to the highest as i have many proofs and people along with me, everytime I visit service center, I found everytime 1-2 customers facing same issue. Service center people are denying warranty citing liquid damage, or a minute broken back cover, we should unite together and fight against this, is somebody knows process of starting a consumer court case.

This is download mode and the phone should be communicating in this mode via fastboot. You can try to unlock the bootloader and then flash the stock ROM.

I’m dealing with the same problem as you but we can't do anything because we don't time to fight against Nokia at consumer court but can stop buying Nokia product.

  • My phone 6.1plus bought on 26 th April 2019,had a charging problem from 14 feb.2020 onwards ,for which the customer care service guided me to a service centre in borivali, who said it had liquid gone in to it's charging port to which I completely disagreed. But since I have no knowledge about cellphone damage and repair,I had to get it repaired by paying an extra cost if rs.1450 though in warranty period

  • I am facing charging issue in my Nokia 8.1 for the last 2-3 weeks. I went to the service centre but there are saying my device has liquid damage showing a single green spot on USB. Which was not even on charging pin. And was easily removed upon wiping. Therefore thet are charging me for repair. After seeing the Nokia forum I realized this is a recurring issue. I have filed a complaint in consumer court. I am looking for people facing a similar issue to make our case strong. Please contact me on my mail id : manasprasannan88@Gmail.com

  • I have changed the charging cable ,got replaced the charging socket.still the issue persists.

The customer service center are not handling the request.

  • I have purchased Nokia 8.1 on Sep 2019 (Today 25/07/2020). I had issue in Charging Port for last 3 months . Then I stop using Nokia 8.1 and started to use my old mobile. So, Nokia 8.1 is in warranty I gave it to NOKIA Authorised Service centre then they said after 5 hours mobile is liquid damaged. I'm shocked . My mobile is not liquid damaged. Actually the Problem is in manufacturing side of charging Port. Now I need to pay extra money .The warranty is useless. Lost trust.

  • My nokia 7.1 is having charging issue, I need to put charger in a certain angel to charge my phone but it is annoying. My phone warranty is expired but I found nokia has extended the 6 more months for 4 nokia models (including nokia 7.1) due to manufacturing defect, but service center is saying my phone first need to go through few tests to be eligible for that warranty. Asking to submit my phone for 5-7 days which is highly impossible since I am working from home. I need my phone for office work. I request company to repair the phone on the same day. So that customers do not need to suffer.
