A little bit drastic, but I see your point.
I need to walk every day due a health problem and meanwhile I play a game called "Ingress" just to motivate me, without a working compass my mobile is absolutely unusable. In the other hand the warranty expires in three months... Not drastic, caro amico, I bought a phone with compass and it have not been working for months. Revert to Oreo is not an option because Nokia promised, at the same time, an update to Pie. There's something drastic on this: HMD Global didn't said nothing about this problem, never. 😞

I'm thinking of going back to Oreo to get the compass back. Other than seeing what codec is used by the bluetooth connection I can't really think of a feature from Pie that I've used. Maybe I'm forgetting something ?
I am still not getting March security update for my Nokia 8. So, you received it and compass is still not fixed. I don't understand how I could be so fooled by this...brand-new Nokia company. The inability to make a compass repair since December is unbelievable. Many other brands, including unknown varous Chinese brands, already have a full-featured Pie and regular monthly updates. Nokia, which has boasts the privilege of regular software updates, in my eyes has failed across the line. I don't trust them anymore. The only way to calm your nerves is return your Nokia product if you can and buy a product from a serious brand.
I did chat with Support after installing March SP, they did pretty fast admit that this proble exists, but the same promise thah a fix is worked on and will be released sometime, but no timeframe given.
I think I'll ask for a refund, the update fixing the compass will probably never arrive. If it was an easy thing to fix for HDM they would have done it by now... It was a wrong decision to buy this phone.
When you get canned response reply back and ssay something like "thank you for the canned response, but ... " then list xyz why the response didn't address your query, e.g. like it's the same answer they've given for the past four months.
I did this with a recent query and I soon after actually got a human response, which surprised me. You can usually spot the canned responses because the text is a different colour!

What does support even mean to them ? Sure they still push out security updates regularly, but that's basically all they do for ''support''. Feels like real support already ended.

Got the update patch but the compass is not working, North keeps moving.
