@HMD_Laura can you share the YT livestream link so we could set a reminder? 😁
They donot want us to set a remainder, they want us alert and aware. 😂

PS- only Nokia fans can remain that much aware and alert.

Just noticed ZEISS Smooth, ZEISS Modern ... ZEISS everything on the new camera app😂. Why so much ZEISS though at least they should have left the new camera app alone with the branding?

Somebody take my NOKIA 7 PLUS and give me the new 7.2  :D
Totally an outstanding phone... And most importantly, it has ULTRA WIDE LENS and a dedicated Ziess feature in the camera for editing. Really liked how Nokia put whole of its energy on Camera and Display as the software is already taken care by Google via Android One.

Nokia 2720 is a great device, hope its India pricing is affordable, so that I can buy it this Diwali.

And it's ironic as the gentleman from ZEISS I met said he didn't really like portait/bokeh modes! :D

Maybe he was just speaking for himself and not representing ZEISS at the moment 😁.

I would say the branding on the camera app is to the point where I find it really absurd.
And which of the new phones did impress you the most?

I just noticed the music after you said and I just burst out laughing. 🤣

I don't know much about music but I think they were completely out of sync or just the instrument were not suited for the songs they were playing, I don't know. I think it was 'Beat It!' by Micheal Jackson they were trying to play at the beginning and I heard 'Shape of You' by Ed Sheeran too in the mix. And many others too.
  • Exciting times!
Midrange is a very competitive market, Nokia/HMD you are killing it!!

I loved the design of Lumia Phones, the Lumia 920 with the camera lineard and centered, and now the Lumia 830 with circular; the spirit of Lumia still lives!
And as a side note, all major manufacturers seems to follow this, the centered lineared and circular, we are going to see a lot like these!

Yes, all this is excellent but what about the processor? Even in western markets, people won't accept a processor from 2017. :( I am sad. Nokia 7.2 should have been the 6.2 and should have at least used a 665. This is very bad.  :/

I don't see they them as killing it. They are being hit hard and will be hit hard soon. :(
  • The 7.2 has the same processor as the 7 plus from February 2018. Wow.

And I hate to be cynical but the presentation made me feel really bored. Juho simply isn't great when it comes to presenting shiny new products. I didn't feel excited at all while listening, even though I am truly hyped for the new smartphones (and cool new feature phones).

It wasn't his fault actually. He didn't have anything to say about new phones. SD660 on a phone launching in September 2019. What a blunder.
  • This wasn't the Nokia we wanted to see.  :'(

It's like they are making a joke of their own fans. Seriously, does anyone at HMD really think that one could comfortably recommend someone a Nokia 7.2 with SD660 over the competition that offers SD7xx, better cameras and better software experience? What reason should one give while recommending a Nokia? Only that you get a phone with a nordic design? This is the only reason? It has triple cameras. Nice but that's not enough to cover the old processor chosen. I am highly disappointed. :(
  • Did anyone notice how many views did the Livestream video on Youtube get? Just 32k and IMO these are the number of die-hard Nokia fans left world wide. There was a downward trend but this was a 90-degree fall. Just 32k views on a live stream of a channel which has 800k subs. The promo videos of the new phones aren't hit either.  All videos combined have got just 27k views. People are just not interested in Nokia anymore. HMD needs to do something different and stop behaving like an old man who thinks what he is doing is correct.

Exactly. One of my friends asked me about which phone to buy. I although recommended him OnePlus, but still asked him to stop till Nokia launches its new lineup as I was expecting at least a SD7xx processor. But the moment I saw that both the phones have a processor which is 2 years old, I just texted him and told him to go with OnePlus or Redmi. His current phone is already having a SD636 processor, and recommending him the same processor, that too after nearly 2 years of purchase, is neither a good advice, nor an ethical one.

Definitely, Nokia might have worked upon camera very well, but that's not enough. Technology ages very fast. 2 years in technology is an extremely short period.

Yep, this is the main concern. As fans, we may buy these phones with 2 year old processors and justify it but other people even with very little technical knowledge will simply neglect it.  :(
  • @madbilly Kai OS has ruined the beauty of both 2720 and 800. It would have been much better if they went with Sailfish OS or atleast with in house Feature OS. This might have helped them reducing the overall cost.

It would be interesting if HMD pays little more focus on the development of their own Feature OS rather than blindly using unreliable, horrible, junk and full of spywares KaiOS.

  • With this lineup (7.2/6.2) it seems very hard that HMD will cross 5 million shipment mark quarterly.  :(

To me the main issue with sticking with a 14nm SoC is the fact that it will not give as good battery life as a newer SoC which is based on a smaller process. The only real silver lining the choice of SoC does bring is that it should hopefully make it easier for 7+ owners to get Android R (albeit unofficially).
If only they allowed us to unlock the bootloader of all their phones officially we would be able to flash almost anything on the devices but that's a whole another topic. With the bootloader locked I doubt it would be that easy for 7+ to unofficially upgrade to Android 11(R) once it arrives on 7.2 even if both 7+ and 7.2 has the same SoC.

However, whilst KaiOS seems popular I think that HMD would do better to develop their own OSes or use Sailfish, which is way more up to date than KaiOS (and KaiOS cannot evolve, it is stuck where it is for many technical reasons).
Overall though, I like them all! :D I'm just not sure if I would spend my own money or recommend them to anyone.

OMG I miss those Symbian days. Symbian was really ahead of its time. If only they could revive it somehow. The number of apps were also pretty great as far as I remember. I think HMD is stuck with KaiOS for now on their feature phones.

The camera quality remains to be tested in the real world, but I like what HMD seem to be doing, I just wish they would stop talking about "phones that just keep getting better" when they don't actually bring these camera app improvements to older models!
I think the 6.2 is the better value phone though. The real world performance won't really be different from the 7.2 and I suspect that the 16MP camera will be just as good as the 48MP one. Someone will work out how to port the 7.2 camera app to the 6.2 to get the ZEISS effects and then the only remaining differences are storage and the "satin" finish on the back of the 7.2, which I can't get excited about (why have glass then make it look like something else?!).

I only see only one improvement on the 7.2 and 6.2 from previous devices and that is only the camera hardware and the software. Everything else seems to be the same. Although the design is somewhat changed, I doubt it could be called an improvement over previous phones. I think they are making their camera hardware and software the only selling point and thereby not upgrading the camera software of previous phones. If they did I don't think there will be any difference between the new and older devices which is kind of sad if you think of it.

About teh 7.2m, all this talk about the SD660 being old is missing the point a bit.
    1. Don't forget that the 7+ was actually a higher "range" phone than the 7.2 is, so now the same performance is cheaper
    2. If the performance is adequate and it is a well proven reliable chipset, then why use something else? (remember that Qualcomm have had issues in the past with new SoCs, e.e the one in the Nexus 5X, so it does actually reduce warranty risk to stick with an older one).

For the users complaining about Nokia 7.2 having the same SD 660 chipset as the previous phone, I would say they are not completely wrong. Its because of Nokia's own fault, If only they could make the naming scheme much easier for the masses there wouldn't have been so many complain about this and I think most of the user base would have understood it.

I don't like the choice of processors because they are over 2 years old now. There are latest chipsets available which have received good reviews too. They should have used something different which hasn't been used on their older devices.
Nokia 6.1 plus and Nokia 7.1 are exactly same devices with 7.1 being a bit more premium and both came with SD636. So, HMD should have gone for a better chip on its successor. Now, some say SD660 is an upgrade over Sd636. Yes, but will the buyer consider it? Most phones sold in the online market have sd7xx processor and are priced lower than new Nokia phones. I know SD660 is a capable chip and my 7 plus hasn't given me any performance issues. But not everyone will accept an older chipset when they can buy the latest flashy thing available in the market. To sell the product and reach more people they will have to start offering latest tech. Their 2nd gen devices like 6.1, 6.1 plus, 5.1 plus and 7 plus had latest features and these were their hero devices. I wish all the best to HMD. These devices should be launched quietly in the offline market and pushed in stores. If they are visible online it will create a bad image.

  • I want Jerry rigs everything to test this high tech polymer composite that Nokia is talking about so much. I dare Nokia to send a unit to him. 😏

i am not sure if it is 2 times stronger than polycarbonate but that does mean that it is less stronger then Metal. :) The phone will still survive Zack's torture test as it has metal inside and this polymer composite is just a layer above metal chassis. :)
  • Ah nice, but I see how even he has to repeat like the same things over for each device. I'm still not able to disgest that HMD did twins.

They did twins last year too. With 6.1 plus and 7.1. Doing twins is fine. I guess even moto did that with G5 series in past? But differentiate them well.
