Nokia 3.2 TA-1164 never received any update and it is stuck with build 00EEA_1_03D. Why?
Hello,
why my phone never received any updates? I also check manually almost everyday but there is never any update for it.
The official Nokia security updates page (https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_int/security-updates) lists only firmware starting with 00WW_ code.
There is no sign of any 00EEA_ones.
Thanks!
Luca

I live in Italy and there is no Nokia Service Center here if this is what you were referring to.Anyway, I read elsewhere about the issue that you probably suggested and I double checked the Google Play Store settings.First of all, the device *is* certified by Google Play Protect.I tried to disable the Play Protect and check again for updates but the result is always the same: no updates at all.The device does not discover any new firmware. It remains with the version it came with.Nobody @Nokia can help with this issue, please?Thanks,Luca0

I am in the same situation as topicstarter Luca. I have a Nokia 3.2 TA-1156 that was bought new in The Netherlands early september (just the device, unlocked, without any connection to a carrier or cell phone company). It came with Android Security Patch 1 april 2019 and has never received any updates. Everytime I check the device it says it is fully up to date. I contacted Nokia support and they advised the following.
Please follow the steps below and then check again for available update:
Please go to: Settings -> Apps and Notifications -> See all apps - three dots -> Show system -Google Play services -> Storage -> Cache -> Clear cache.
In case there is still not available security patch, you can put the phone in Safe mode and to check again:
To enter Safe mode:
1. Press and hold on Power button.
2. After that press and hold on the "Power off" option on the screen.
3. Confirm to enter "Safe mode".
4. The device will restart.
* To exit Safe mode just restart the device.
I also tried replacing the simcard with one from another carrier.
All this did not solve anything, so now I have to contact support again and send my IMEI number of the phone. Will keep you updated here.
Strange and annoying problem, as Android One is supposed to be always up to date and this is one of the main reasons for me and others to buy this specific phone with Android One.1 -
Hi Ronald,I already contacted the Nokia support chat and they first told me that I had to wait for my mobile SIM provider for the updates. After I said that my Nokia 3.2 is unbranded they suggested me to remove the SIM card and do the same steps you listed with WiFi connection only.My Nokia 3.2 did not find any new firmware update though and is currently still unpatched since April 2019.Then, they said that Nokia is not involved in patches and I must wait for Google to release them... (I couldn't believe it...).Since I suspected that since I bought my mobile online from Amazon (not from the marketplace) it might be a fake/cloned device and this might be the cause for the lack of updates, I gave them my IMEI number but they said that the mobile is okay and has been correctly sold for the italian market.I asked them to look up if there was any newer 00EEA builds but they said that they cannot check for this information and all they could do was to "open a request to R&D" but they also said that they would not have any feedback for the this request.I wonder what ticketing system in the world lets you open a ticket and does not allow you to see a response to it...I am really amazed by this kind of support... since this is not what I was expecting from Nokia.I also can't understand why no Nokia operator is looking/answering at requests in this community forum.I also sent a PM to HMDLaura but so far I haven't got any reply from her...The time to send back this device to Amazon in case the issue will not be solved is running out so I hope that someone at HMD will reply...Luca2

Hi Luca,
Same story here. I spent a good hour talking with a representative in the Nokia chat support. First I got the standard copy-paste reply (we cannot comment on specific updates or release plans). After I made clear that this is a problem on the side of Nokia they let me try a whole range of things like clearing data, clearing cache of all different apps, restarting, safe mode and so on. Nothing worked so please save yourself the time. This is a brand new phone with hardly any apps installed, so I shouldn't even have to jump through hoops to simply update.
So now customer support have send a bug report to the developers about TA-1164 and TA-1156. We surely can't be the only two that have this problem? I am outside the return window, so all I can do is wait for a fix. But I agree with you 100 percent that this is very disappointing.
On a positive note, I do like the phone itself. Big screen, modern design, pretty good camera and best of all the huge 4000 mAH battery (I currently have 7 days standby, 6 hours of screen on time and about 40% still remaining).

Hi Ronald, this is what I wonder about as well. Are we the only ones whose Nokia (3.2 or different models) are not updating at all?I have also a Nokia 6 and its firmware updates regularily since the purchase. The only difference is that its firmware starts with "00WW_" instead of "00EEA_"I wonder if there are other Nokia devices with firmware starting with "00EEA_" and what is their update status.Anyone has un-updated firmwares besides me and Ronald?I like the phone as well and it would be a pity to have to send it back just because HMD/Nokia does not want to help shed a light at all on this case...

Hi,
today I just received a brandnew Nokia 3.2 with an build number 00EEA_1_39D from Juli 2019.
And now quess what happend. I cannot receive any newer update. I am really upset right now.
I just tried the tips you were talking about and nothing changed.
I really hope that Nokia will inform us what to do.3 -
@lucaluca and @ronaldw
I just sent a mail and had a chat today.
They gave me the exact same answers and also tried to sideload a 00WW-Update that did not work... I knew that this wont work but at least I wanted to try everything.
Are you both from Germany?
Someone said that there could work a VPN-trick spoofing a different country to get an update... but I think this wont work either.
Did you get a response from your tickets?3 -
Thank you Nocci, at least now we know that updates do exist, since your build (00EEA_1_39D) is newer than mine and Ronald's.In fact your version matches version 00WW_1_39D listed here as having July patches:Can you tell me which model is your 3.2, please?(you can get this information from Settings/System)

@Nocci, I am in Italy and Ronald wrote that he got his phone from The Netherlands. The Nokia person that I chatted with did not open a ticket: he only said he would contact the R&D but that he would not have any feedback about this contact... (I couldn't believe it but I did not want to argue...)I think that most firmware are country-optimized so I don't think it would be a good idea to get a firmware optimized for another part of the world...2
-
Thank youTA-1156 is the same as Ronald's.Mine is TA-1164 (32GB version)1
-
Yeah... I fully agree to that.
flashing a 00WW-Ota-File via adb was a try that did not work because it checked the version before flashing and complained a mismatch.
The VPN-trick is something I would test but I have to know where in Europe a newer fimware for the 00EEA is already released. I would not try to get an OTA from India or somewhere far away. I bet this would mess up a lot.
I really hope that Nokia will fix this issue in the next days because I would send it back to the seller if OTA updates wont work. I choose this phone because of Android One.3 -
I can confirm that, TA-1164 in EU is stuck on July 2019 update. Brand new, no SIM card inserted.

Mine is even older... native April 2019 version

Hi Luca, nocci and Puppy,
Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately I don't have any news to add. I was reading about that VPN trick as well, but am not really tempted to try it out (just yet).
Of course all brands have bugs and problems, but I think what annoys us the most here is indeed the Android One thing. There is a promise (guarantee) of monthly security updates. Nokia even uses that term in an official promotional video of the 3.2 (see picture).
Nokia, at least let us know what is going on.

Nokia, at least let us know what is going on.
I don't think we get any response, that's how all the support works nowadays. The problem is there apparently for several months already and nobody cares. The last serious mobile platform was Windows 10 Mobile. Security updates had always been deliverd in time, on exact day of the month (second Tuesday) for four years period to all supported devices. Never late.1 -

I guess some or all of the European rollouts have to be approved by governing bodies , as a lot of rollouts and updates seem to get delayed. In the US everyone of unlocked Nokia phones get updates every month like clockwork. Complain to your service provider and to the governing body that has to approve these newer versions. HMD makes updates available but it's pending partner support so it is not really their issue. It's a shame that this prevents timely rollouts.0 -

Yes. Exactly what I think.
I tried without SIM before my first try to update the device with the same result. No Update for European Version of the phone.
The last email from the text-macro-loving-support (very much copy&paste answers) was that Nokia HMD is not responsible...They now blame Google for not delivering any updates.0 -

We know that there are a lot of updates available for the 00WW-version of the phone.
Here is a direct download link to the latest OTA update (V1.39F_B01) for the WW-Version:
https:// android. googleapis. com/packages/ota-api/nokia_dplsprout_deadpool00ww/7540f12539b20d2816be94eb5476e6bae018ceb7.zip
It has the fingerprint: Nokia/Deadpool_00WW/DPL_sprout:9/PKQ1.190202.001/00WW_1_39F:user/release-keys
But we are talking about the european 00EEA-versions. (Deadpool_00EEA)
This build seems to be for the european marked/region.
Please be so kind @jdi000 and provide me a link that show the updates for the european marked. That would be highly appriciated.

I also own Nokia 7 Plus (EU version again) and there were no issues with the updates since the day one.
