What it says in the title.
This "bug" or whatever it is currently affects several Nokia users across a number of other models. More details of the problem can be found elsewhere in these forums. I'm posting this to confirm that yes, the Nokia 8 is unfortunately not safe from it.
Hopefully Nokia, or Google, or both will move to rectify this soon.

Upvote that thread, and report the issue from within the Messages app > 3 dot menu > Help and feedback.
Make sure to allow the log files so Google's developers get something to work with.
Nokia 8 reverts to Messages version 3.9.039 if the phone is factory reset, without updates available from the app store.
(Tested by uninstalling updates).
Being detached from app updates is a concern regarding bug fixes, security issues and new features.

@MrBelter Which ones? I've asked a few people who own Samsung phones (A3, A8, J3, S9) and none of them have this issue. Also, Google doesn't seem able to provide any search results related to Samsung phones and Android Messages incompatibility. What is your source for this claim?
The link user389 posted, scroll down, there are images of an S10 displaying the error and a comment bellow about an S10 too
