PureView 4.0, Miniaturized ZEISS Anamorphic lens, Night Video etc.

PureView 4.0

PureView has existed long before the current camera revolution. It's not a new for a specific camera technology, but a name given to an imaging innovation that will help shape the current the future mobile imaging technologies. In this pitch, I will be showing a brand new design based on true a Nokia aesthetics and also an ambitious imaging innovation.

In this new PureView technology, co-engineered by Zeiss and Light.co, we get a more diverse set if camera lenses. Instead of having 5 cameras that shoots all at once, we give users a more diverse experience.

The features as followed:

1. TELEPHOTO

2. MONOCHROME (WIDE) - BW PHOTO AND VIDEO IS FUN TO USE. BUT THIS LENS IS NOT JUST MADE FOR THAT. THIS ALSO HELPS THE MAIN CAMERA TAKE AMAZING NIGHT SHOTS, AND HDR PHOTOS IN DAYLIGHT. MADE PERFECTLY FOR THE MAIN CAMERA.

3. MAIN RGB (WIDE)

4. ULTRA-WIDE

5. MINIATURIZED ANAMORPHIC - THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NEW DEVICE. ANAMORPHIC LENS ARE EXPENSIVE, AND BULKY. BUT THIS MINIATURIZED VERSION CO-ENGINEERED WITH ZEISS WILL JUST BE AS GOOD AS THE BIGGER ONES.

ANDROID NEVER HAD A DEDICATED LENS FOR VIDEO. OTHERS CLAIMS "CINE LENS", BUT IS IT REALLY MADE FOR THAT? TIME TO CHANGE THE GAME. THIS LENS WILL BE THE PHONE'S DEDICATED VIDEO CAMERA. BEFORE, WE ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO SHOOT 720P, 1080P, AND 4K. THIS NEW SENSOR WILL GIVE A LOT OF OPTIONS, 720P, 1080P, 2K, 3K, AND 4K, ALL IN PRE-CORRECTED ANAMORPHIC FORMAT. CAN CAPTURE SLOW-MOTION, AND SUPPORTS 60FPS ON 1080P AND ABOVE. ALSO SUPPORTS CINESTYLE BY TECHNICOLOR, 12-BIT LOG FORMAT BY NOKIA AND LIGHT.

IT ALSO ALLOW PHOTO CAPTURE, UP TO 10MP. THE SENSOR BELOW THIS LENS IS CUSTOM MADE FOR THIS EXACT SPECIFICATION.

6. TIME OF FLIGHT (ToF) - THIS CAMERA CAN BE USED TO TAKE LIVE VIDEO, OR REAL-TIME PORTRAIT BLUR ADJUSTMENT. THIS CAN ALSO TAKE DEPTH INFORMATION WHICH WILL ENABLE POST DEPTH ADJUSTMENT.

7. SHORT PULSE HIGH-POWER LED FLASH - THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF FLASH WAS ONCED USED IN LUMIA PHONES (LIKE LUMIA 920), AND IS PROVEN POWERFUL ENOUGH TO LIGHT UP A SCENE. THE WARMER COLOR WILL ALSO GIVE A MORE DESIRABLE SKIN TONE.

8. INFRARED ILLUMINATOR - THIS HAS SEVERAL USES. THIS COULD HELP TAKE AMAZING PORTRAIT SHOTS IN PITCH BLACK ENVIRONMENT, OR USE AS AN INVISIBLE VIDEO LIGHT FOR AMAZING NIGHT VIDEO. IF PUT ON THE FRONT, THIS MAY ALSO BE USED AS A CAMERA FOR **** RECOGNITION, SO USERS NO LONGER HAS TO CLICK AN POWER BUTTON TO GET **** READINGS.

Also, see the placement of the Main Wide and Ultra-wide? It was designed with Light.co logo in mind. ♥️

  • Forgive the grammar. I'm sleepy while typing this. 😂

  • @madbilly what's your take brother?

  • @HMDLaura can you pitch this to Juho?

  • And yes, infrared Illuminator will be using the Monochrome sensor in Night Video, since our eyes can easily differentiate black and white than color.

  • Too good to be true.. we want old good pureview like 808 with new sensor.. everything else is nonsense

  • We? Hmmm.

Anyway, technology evolves. It's either you follow or make your own trend, or get left out.

Hi @Wade Wilson, great thinking! I love ideas like this which are put together and the reasoning explained, rather than just a bucket list of specs (like, well, like what I've done in the past!).

I am quite confused about what you mean by anamorphic. Do you just mean a camera sensor and lens specifically designed for 16:9, 21:9 or even wider aspect ratios? Otherwise, my only understanding of anamorphic is where the lens stretches the image over a wider sensor area, somewhat distorting it, then when the image is displayed it has to be "unstretched", otherwise it will look strange.

For the main "wide" camera do you mean that this will be normal focal length, or will there actually be no "normal" focal length camera, but instead we'll have ultra-wide RGB, wide RGB+mono and telephoto RGB?

What about stabilisation? OIS for a dedicated video-phone would make sense.

And no xenon flash for the camera? Or variable RGB LEDs for video?

    Cheers 🙂

  • @madbilly yup. Anamorphic is a lens. It's kinda bulky actually. But if there's a way to miniaturize it, it would be great. Yes, the video is squuezed. But will appear de-squeezed on the viewfinder and also on post. So users will not have to use pro video editing software to de-squeezed the footage. Modern anamorphic aspect ratio 2.39:1 (also known as 2.40:1). Also by wide, I mean a focal length equivalent to perhaps 25 or 27mm which is considered wide. OIS, hmmm. Yes, that would be great. But I was thinking it would be hard to add OIS on Anamorphic since we already miniaturized it. But perhaps, we can like make periscope style to enable OIS. Xenon is also bulky, and would drain battery faster. So I instead went with short pulse high powered led. Perhaps, we can exchange this with variable RGB LED. That would be cool.

It's an interesting idea. What's the smallest anamorphic lens available now? If it's not available in any compact cameras then I doubt it can be further miniaturised, but definitely an interesting idea.

    Cheers 🙂

  • There is actually two small anamorphic lens, Iscorama and Baby hypergonar. Also, companies like Moment and Moondog are creating anamorphic lenses for iPhone.

    Ah that's cool, I didn't know that 😃

  • There are many anamorphic lens attachments available for all phones. It is a nice idea but I don't see the need for this in phones. It will turn another Nokia 9 PureView that's only for a ultra niche segment. Those who use anamorphic lenses will buy those high quality external lens attachments. 😁

  • I agree. However, it's something no one has ever did before. A dedicated sensor for videos. I like taking photos, but I'm more passionate about videos. Knowing the old Nokia had been emphasizing the video on their old flagship, it's the for HMD to follow. Remember the time when we have our own Nokia short film competitions? The Sundance etc.

  • Focusing on Video. This is what Nokia 8.2 will be about. Sarvikas also said in a recent interview that they will be focusing more on video. So, maybe they are finally planning to add some improved software features in video mode of Nokia Camera. 😃

Hi @Wade Wilson, I agree, more focus on video would be good. So far it has not been treated as well as photos, except for the inclusion of OZO Audio.

@Kartik Gada, reference to the interview please?

    Cheers 🙂
