Android 10 for Nokia 9 PureView: Now in India

Hello everyone,
We are now rolling out the Android 10 update for the Nokia 9 PureView in India.
This now means that 13 Nokia smartphones have received the latest Android OS since its official launch in the country.
Nokia smartphones maintain their position as leaders in fast OS updates and are once again at the forefront of the latest Android 10 deployment. HMD Global consolidates its commitment to Nokia phones getting better over time. The Nokia 9 PureView launched with a promise of three years’ worth of guaranteed monthly security updates and two years of OS upgrades.
According to research from Counterpoint, Nokia phones were the fastest brand in issuing the latest software updates, covering 94% of its portfolio, demonstrating its commitment to consistent software updates, including entry level devices.
As of today, Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.2, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 6.2, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 2.3 and Nokia 2.2 are all upgraded to Android 10.
Fans will get to experience a whole host of new features with Android 10, including:
Gesture Navigation: control of your Nokia smartphone just got slicker, with faster and more intuitive controls at the tip of your fingers
Smart Reply: receive even smarter responses in messages, not just wording but actions you can take
Privacy Controls: have even more control of your personal data all in one place, and control when your location is shared with your apps – be that always, just while in use, or never
Focus mode: block out distracting apps when you need to concentrate on what’s important (try it now in Beta)
Family Link: now part of the Digital Wellbeing settings, helping parents set digital ground rules for the whole family
More Nokia smartphones are in line to receive the latest Android 10 update. Stay tuned!

That's indeed a great news all together.
I hope the developers have done a thorough work on the update up till the minutest details. Having faced a relatively bad update experience for Nokia 7 Plus, I still have fear at some corner of my mind about upgrading my Nokia 9 PureView to Android 10.
I hope all those issues that I faced on my Nokia 7 Plus, be it bad audio, no ambient display, resetting of various settings upon restart, data connection bug, incompatibility of GCam, or any other bug out of those 100s of them reported by many users, are not present in the Android 10 update of the FLAGSHIP DEVICE OF HMD GLOBAL.
Also, I expect that the developers have done work on improving the Camera Performance and enhancing the capabilities of the Pro Mode by adding some really required features.
Hope this update is as polished and perfect (near to perfect as of now) as a diamond. I'll be waiting for fellow users to comment upon their experience with the new update before making any decision to update my device (the mistake that I did with my Nokia 7 Plus, for which I still regret).
Thank you HMD for again maintaining the promise.

Dear All,
Update as of 03:30 AM (IST) on Thursday, 30th April 2020
Received Android 10 update (V 5.13D) on my Nokia 9 PV (TA-1087) - Dual SIM India Model - when I was connected through Wifi & manually checked for update.
It comes with April 2020 Google Security Patch.
It weighs around 839 MB.
Installation (...plus optimizing apps) takes around 25 minutes.
Will keep you all posted about the performance / feedback!.
Thank you @Nokia 9 @Nokia 9 pureview @dipankar paul

Hi all,
This is nice news. I hope that @praveenp's dreams come true with this update!
One thing... or three things actually: I've got focus mode, family link and smart replies on my Nokia 8 with Android 9 I think because they are delivered as updates via the store, so the only features exclusive to Android 10 are new gesture navigation (still not as good as the N9 😉) and better, more granular privacy controls, which have been in LineageOS since it was called CyanogenMod. So what innovation does Android 10 actually bring?
Don't reply here, stay on topic with the Nokia 9 PureView 😃
Cheers 🙂

I was about to ask your experience of using Android 10 on Nokia 9 PureView but then i read the last para.😅
I haven't updated mine too but i am about to update it in few minutes. Have moved all data to my pc and will now reset the phone. Then update to Android 10 and will reset once again.
I don't expect any changes coming to the camera. Also,no one has reported any changes. So..
Will update and share if I see any changes in the camera app.

@praveenp What's the Camera App version on Android Pie? I forgot to note it down and now I am on Android 10. 😅

Hope so !!

It's 91.9.1170.33 (1 Feb 2020 patch)

Android 10 got a minor update but nothing changed. It is still the same. I don't see any "new" issues with the camera app. Just that the old ones still remain unfixed.

Ohk... As expected. The phone has been left just for giving the updates.
Anyways... Has the FINGERPRINT SCANNER IMPROVED?? Like for me, I have to try at least 6-7 times every time to get the print recognized (sometimes even 12-15 times) even when I have registered my thumb twice (for 2nd time, it took half an hour though 😅).

Finger print scanner won't improve with software updates. This is a 1st gen scanner and the performance will remain the same.

Do anyone face call conferencing / call merge issue in Nokia 9 PV - Android 10? (TA-1087 - Nokia Dual SIM - India Version - Updated to Android 10 on Thursday, 30th April 2020)
I'm on Reliance Jio 4G network (Roaming - away from home state) - call waiting activated.
When I try to merge 2 calls - it does not work in the following situations #
- When i make 2 outgoing calls and when I try to merge, it does not merge. 2nd calls disconnects and takes me to the 1st call.
- When I make an outgoing call and when I receive an incoming call, I'm able to receive the 2nd call while placing the 1st call on hold, but when I try to merge, it does not work. Incoming call drops and 1st call gets active.
Any views or replications?
- I'm on Jio prepaid with sufficient balance to make and receive calls while on roaming.
- Call waiting is active.
I'm sure call conference is also active, as the same was working when I had tried conferencing while on Android 9. (2 days back, just before updating to Android 10).

When do you correct the problem with the audio left by Android 10 in the Nokia 7.1? Thanks and don't forget the solutions.

Hi @singhnsk,
I just tested by sending myself messages and yes I have what I call smart replies (suggested replies) in the default messaging app. They also appear in notifications pull-down as well.
I can have quite an interesting conversation with myself just using these suggestions! 😆
Cheers 🙂

Hello. Can anyone who has updated to Android 10 on 9PV in India tell whether it is having the same bugs/ issues as the Android 10 on Nokia 7 Plus?
Bugs/ issues like cracking sound, no ambient display, icon shape reverting to default circle after restart, color scheme reverting to default after restart, mobile data issues, lags in UI, glitches in display, screen freeze...
Please tell. Though I'm not at all planning to upgrade to Android 10 in near future (as my Nokia 7 Plus has already become a beautiful black brick with copper accents now), but just need to know in case it becomes necessary to upgrade as the future patches won't be available until I upgrade.
Thanks.

But only for messages app, right? Android 10 takes it a little forward, expanding it to all apps. But that also means Google now reads all notification contents 😂

Most things that do not affect the day to day usage work on Nokia 9 PureView. The glance screen works but there are ghost icons of previous notification that is cleared. COD Mobile goes blank after around 4-4.5 games. No issuws with mobile data or wifi. No sound issues. Sometimes if I try to switch to an app from the recents it takes me to that app after a few seconds (2-3 seconds). Brightness slider doesn't work on lockscreen. And camera app is unchanged. But I feel I was more happy on Pie (Not sure why. I haven't faced any lagging issues with the camera app but I have a slight doubt on the performance in 2X and 5X zoom where I feel the images are looking a bit more overshapened).

I'm still skeptical about updating my device... But I'm continuously getting prompts to download the update, which I'm certainly not going to do... Is there any way to block those messages?
I don't want to give up on my phone, at least till the lockdown ends so that in case if it becomes intolerable (which I know it will), I can visit the service center for any solution.

Check developer settings. There is an option do disable auto updates. Maybe, that might help. 🙂

Same thought when I first saw this feature. The only people to whom this will mostly suit are - bosses replying to their employees.
Employee: "Sir, I've finished the report and it must be in your email now."
Boss: (Chooses from OK, Ok thanks, Thank you)
Also boss: Yay! I saved my time and effort while responding to my subordinate. This is such a nice feature. Hail Google 😍
I'm super sure that if we start using these in general personal conversation, then it will do a lot of damage to relationships. So, I turned them off the moment I saw them and I save space in my notifications area and ensure that I send thoughtful replied. I also wrote a short guide for those who aren't sure where to disable it. I'm really thankful to Google that they gave us the toggle to disable these smart replies 😁
Now, only if they gave us the ability to do the same with the search bar on the homescreen. So, eventually started using the power of root to get the OnePlus launcher to work along with the gesture navigation. I'm happy! (Only if they allowed bootloader unlock to make it easy for others too... Same old rant. To be continued...)
To others: Sorry for diverting the topic. Not my first time, but I'm trying to do this less often.

What I use is:
- Disable automatic system updates in Dev Options.
- Start the download of the update. Then pause it there
This saves me from the update notification without having to install the update. In case the update has already downloaded and is only pending the application (via reboot), then there's no solution to get rid of the notifications regarding the updates.

Thanks. But this didn't did anything. Still getting the prompts to update.😑
