[Update 28/04/20] Android 10 on Nokia 8 Sirocco

No, I definitely do have a lock symbol on my glance screen (only since Android 10). The lock screen only comes up when I e.g. double tap from there.
But similar to you, the brightness fixed itself after a restart.
Earlier today I had some issue with the live bokeh mode of the camera. I recorded an image, but it never showed up in the gallery.
Had to restart the phone to make it work again.

Lol. Well, I definitely don't have a lock symbol on my glance screen. My glance screen is set to always on, "Stylish - digital", double-tap to wake is active... Where does it appear? Top? Bottom? Can you take a picture?
0 -
It's in the same position as on the lock screen.
But I just made a test: if I turn the glance screen to always-on, there's no lock symbol.
If I set it to hide after 15s (my normal setting), there is.

Half day of use with Android 10 and I can also confirm WiFi issues. Never had issues with Android 9.
Same router, same distance and my phone constantly switch to Mobile Network.
Hope this can be fixed very soon :(

Hi @rich,
These days its irrelevant whether you bought your phone SIM-free or network-locked, HMD provide the same software update to all phones and network-specific settings are configured within the software based on which network and country you're using/in. In the old days every network-locked phone had different software, but that's not the case anymore (for HMD at least, other brands follow the old system, like Sony).
The problem in the UK with HMD's approach, as far as I understand it, is that (because the software is the same regardless of network operator) every network operator must approve the update before any phone in the UK can get an update. Other countries don't have such a heavy approvals system, they only require the network operator which you're actually using at that time to approve the update, which is why SIM swapping can sometimes cause an update to appear. In the UK I think the only solution is the VPN trick (remove SIM and use wifi to tunnel to another country then check for updates), because as well as being operator based the update rollout is also country-based, so if the update isn't approved in the UK then you won't get it regardless of which network's SIM you're using.
That's my understanding, anyway - I may be wrong! 😆
Cheers 🙂

For bugs you've found the best approach is to post about them here on the forum to see if it's a wide spread issue and to see if anyone else has found a solution. Then, if it appears there's no solution then contact support directly to see if they have a solution. If they don't have a solution then they should register it as a bug and send to the dev team. That's my understanding anyway.
Cheers 🙂

That's right @madbilly. I wonder what really goes with this process. As @rich said, when the phone has nothing to do with the carrier, why do the carriers push their leg when it comes to the updates? Like even if I import the phone from another country, I need to wait just because a carrier is too slow to test and certify the releases? Isn't it a bit of discrimination?
Also, does Nokia even sell "carrier-locked" phones in the UK? If not, aren't these phones just same as "SIM-free/unlocked"? Should the network operator really play a role only because the phone was sold via their store? :/
Also, @HMDLaura, I remember this old thread about "How our Android updates work". Maybe this should be re-published for the Android 10 edition or remove Android version and should be published raw since it will apply to every major update that you will roll out.
There's nice pointer there:
Every Operator and region follows a different testing schedule. Some may take longer to approve, have different test criteria or preference of features they want to test. If an Operator specific error is discovered, we may need to move the fix the next release. It is faster to roll out upgrades in non-operator markets.
My only concern is.. Does a SIM-free and non-operator-locked device still needed to go through these approvals? I mean.. I understand for a phone made for Verizon or a similar operator. But..

Yup, when I set it to hide, the lock symbol is also there.
The "battery level is brighter" problem resurfaced after another restart. And disappeared after another one.
Today I also had a problem with finger unlock from the glance screen - i.e. the phone unlocks (I can hear the unlocking sound and interact with the screen) but the screen is black. I need press power (to lock it) and the press it once again to display the lock screen and finger-unlock from there. This update is a disaster.

Thanks. They seem to have one solution though: factory reset. And it hardly ever fixes these kinds of issues. I'm not going to do a factory reset just like that and then setup everything only to find out the issue persists (and according to user reports factory reset does NOT fix the WiFi issue)

I upgraded my Nokia 8 Sirocco on 17th April, it was a big mistake that I made, because there are many problems after the upgrade:
1. The battery drains much faster, about 2 to 3 times than Android 9. Before the upgrade, I only needed to charge my phone once a day, but now I have to charge it 2 or 3 times a day.
2. The Play Store does not work anymore. I cannot install or update existing apps. It always shows "download pending" and never finish the download. In addition, Play Store crashes itself very often.
3. The camera does not work anymore. When it takes a picture, it either not saves the picture to the phone or on save as a very low resolution 960 x 720 photo.
4. I cannot transfer files from my phone to a PC via USB cable when select "Transfer files". My phone does not show up on my PC anymore!
My suggestion is do not upgrade to Android 10, or you will regret it. I want to downgrade my Nokia 8 Sirocco back to Android 9, unfortunately, there is no way for downgrading!
I hope Nokia to act on addressing those issues ASAP and test any new version update thoroughly before releasing it!
I used to like my Nokia 8 Sirocco, it was stable and did its jobs very well, but this Android 10 upgrade have completely ruined it.

I seems odd when small companies like Essential managed to release android 10 even before the pixel phones! such a shame the public didn't take to this phone. I saw great potential in what they were doing. As for Nokia, I feel they are trying to churn out phones as fast as the old company did, but with the reduced size of HMD, I just think they cannot keep up with supporting all the phones they have released. I think when the time comes, I'll be opting for a pixel device.

Why Nokia launched A10 with these issues?
Vibration, WiFi range, screen freezing, ...
Anyone in the company did any check before launching A10?
I am sorry for them

After upgrading to Android 10, the screenshot also fails:
Couldn't save screenshot. Try taking screenshot again.

that was my first and last cell phone from HMD. As the owner of a cell phone that cost over € 700 at the time, I expect an update to be checked before it is released. The WiFi under A10 is a joke. No VoLTE in Germany. No news for the camera app. I think HMD has launched too many mobile phones and does not have enough employees to maintain the software. I would have been interested in a 8.3 but I think Nokia will be able to launch a 5g mobile phone that no VoLTE can.

There are lot of bugs
1.glance on view shows ghost notification even after clearing the notification
2.battery drains faster
3.apps started to crash
And a lot other bugs

I wonder what's the reason why some users have so many issues with the update, while it is (relatively) fine for others.
It's the same hardware, after all.
Pure luck? Some specific personal settings or particular apps?
I've been lucky so far apparently, since all I've noticed are minor things:
Wrong brightness for elements on the glance screen, which fixed itself by a restart.
Live bokeh mode one time wouldn't save pictures until I restarted the phone.
Persistent notification on the glance screen for an hour or so - but I'm pretty sure I had this rarely with Android 9 as well.
But luckily no issues with WLAN, battery drain or crashes (save for Gcam, obviously).

Unfortunately, there are also bugs with the bluetooth connection. It pairs with the car's bluetooth system, but when I turn off the car or the car unit no longer reconnects. The connection must be deleted and redone.

I did a factory reset. Fingerprint Reader ist still very slow and sometimes it do not work at all. Wi-Fi Connection in 2 meter distance to my Fritzbox is average. Directly after the factory reset the Playstore didn't respond for a long time. My next phone will be a cheap one. Guess what? My Display freezed 3 times while I was typing this. Gboard was still working and making suggestions. Can't believe it...

now have ghost notification of WhatsApp in the glance screen. That was definitely not the case under A9. How can you release such an update? Or are employees missing in quality assurance? But no matter, from next week Nokia will be rid of me or better said I am Nokia.

Hello all. I downloaded yesterday, 29.04.2020 update to Nokia 8 Sirocco. The update, apart from the black theme, does not bring anything positive, on the contrary there is no face recognition anymore, the wifi signal is lowered and this significantly lacks the shape settings of the icons (only from the programmer's position). After one day contact with the Nokia department. Answer: phone for repair or wait for the next update. In my opinion, the update has brought more losses as benefits in the forums loudly, please read before someone decides because at the moment it is not worth it. A lot of buzz around 10 that just harmed Noki 8 sirocco. Nokia has not spoken about it today which is strange they released a total HMD sell in the form of A10. Noki's technical support is not able to do anything. Total failure should be possible 9 Pie, unfortunately irreversible process

A quick and practical fix Nokia can do for all the issues brought by Android 10 is that Nokia should provide a easy way for users to downgrade/roll back to Android 9.
5 -
In my opinion, the cause of the android10 crap-date is only that HMD promised that, but they had no time and effort to test the current version. I think, that for the HMD the stat and the marketing counts only. The company can say, that more and more Nokia models are running android 10. But dear HMD, isn't a little bit high the price (losing loyality) ?

Issues I have with Android 10:
- Whatsapp Ghost Notifications (only solvable by restart)
- Finger print sensor not responding from time to time, only buttons work
- WiFi not working properly
And, of course, no viable GCam option, but this is not something I can blame Nokia for.

When I upgraded, there were a lot of bugs in my Sirocco. I was suffering them for 3 days. Then, I decided to try a last solution: doing a Factory Reset (from recovery menu). After that, 99% of the bugs disappeared totally. Only two or three minor bugs remains (like the ghost notification in Glance screen), but don't matter to me. I am very happy with my smartphone because it works really fine at this moment 😉

How about Play Store and Camera? Do they work after the factory reset? I have tried Safe Mode, both of them still not working? My play store and camera issues are:
1. The Play Store does not work anymore. I cannot install or update existing apps. It always shows "download pending" and never finish the download. In addition, Play Store crashes itself very often.
2. The camera does not work anymore. When it takes a picture, it either not saves the picture to the phone or on save as a very low resolution 960 x 720 photo.

If a simple restart doesn't help, you might indeed want to try a factory reset. So far yours is the first report I saw about this specific problems.
I know that it's annoying to lose all personal settings, but it could be worth a try.
The alternative would be to wait for the next update, which might well take weeks to arrive...

I also had camera problems, then I just resetted the stock camera app to factory settings and now it's fine. Or I should say "fine", because GCam was a lot better. GCam made the phone an almost perfect one, because it fixed the biggest flaw it had.
Right now, the WiFi range is especially annoying. I doubt this will go away with a factory reset, will it?
2 -
Thanks for the suggestion. I also reset the stock camera app to factory setting, clear the storage and it is still not working. I found out that each time it tries to save the pictures or videos to the internal storage it crashes itself which indicates somethings wrong when the camera tries to access the internal memory.
