I'm not pretty sure if you're familiar with Marko Ahtisaari—the greatest NOKIA Phone Designer of all time. He is the one of the Key People who designed some Iconic NOKIA N*** Series Phones and Lumia Phones.

We hope Marko Ahtisaari will Team Up again with HMD Global for the better so called Cultural Design of NOKIA Phones ❤️❤️❤️

Is anybody in the community will nominate him?

Hiring him back for the job would be the best thing ever...

But the problem is that he's been CEO and co-founder of two companies: Dopplr & Sync Project (as read on Google) and I don't think he would come back. 🤣

    * Google Results:

Marko Ahtisaari is a Finnish technology entrepreneur and musician. Ahtisaari has been CEO and co-founder of two technology companies: Dopplr and Sync Project. After the acquisition of Dopplr, Ahtisaari was executive vice president of Design at Nokia and later a Director's Fellow at the MIT Media Lab.

Even his wife is a designer in the industry... 😮

But I wish he comes back... 🤞🤞🤞

By the way he can do it as a Part Time Artistic Director of HMD Global (if he's willing) since he's a former Artistic Director Designer of NOKIA during that Day.

For me. The best thing for HMD Global is to hire Marko Ahtisaari again. Because HMD Global Design is not so good for me as a Tech-Savvy Guy.

I don't trust anymore with Juho Sarvikas as what he's doing what NOKIA is. I'm worrying the Reputation of NOKIA not HMD Global.

Juho Sarvikas is a CPO of Company but I didn't see any improvement of HMD Global when Shipments are still declining since from the start.

I'll trust Marko Ahtisaari more than Juho Sarvikas.

Design at Nokia really evolved a lot while Marko Ahtisaari was heading the design team. I'd definitely want to see him return and show his magical design thinking to make some unique and amazing phones again.

I do not think it is happening though. Plus the management seems to be unwilling to take such decisions. HMD currently still has a lot of talent. Raun Forsyth who is the head of design now has worked for design in Nokia during the Marko's days as well. Miika Mahonen who is a designer behind several HMD phones has worked at Samsung before (I haven't been a fan of Samsung's designs ever though). They do have the talent.

So, the limitations are probably from the management as well as the restrictions of relying on outside open-market components. So, they need to buy what's already available and can fit into a particular design. They aren't in a position to have each component designed to fit their product design. The setup likely happens the other way i.e. fit these components into a practical design.

Also, I feel that HMD has still done an overall good job at design. Their products are still unique and durable. A bigger concern is that there's no design involvement at the UI and UX. So, the software doesn't manage to blend with the phone. You get the usual pale Android experience with no attempts whatsoever to make things work the "nokia" way. I'd wanna see a better software from them, but that's certainly not happening if their key investors investors (like FIH Mobile) are happy and positive with HMD's take on the software.

    Hi all,

Bringing back anyone who has since been CEO of a company will just be a waste of money, they'll be too expensive. HMD could hire 10+ experienced but not "famous" designers for the same price and have each develop their own unique take on their phone models. HMD need diversity in design to generate interest in the brand, not more people who say "in the old days we used to do things like this...".

Except on software. If they could spend the money theoretically saved from not pursuing your idea on software UX design then that would be money well spent in my opinion.

    Cheers 🙂

  • I also support bringing him back only if HMD can afford it. He was the designer of the Nokia N9 which was described as"once at a lifetime" device by critics and won 12 awards in Mobile World Congress. This design was the base of almost all Lumia phones. Check it out.
