This has been reported for other Nokia phones too (see here for example) so it seems this is a problem Nokia have at large.
This has been reported for other Nokia phones too (see here for example) so it seems this is a problem Nokia have at large. It's also a problem with the Nokia 5.3.
If the "Hey Google" hotword is turned on in the Google app, then audio recorded with video in the camera will only be mono, from the bottom microphone. If "Hey Google" is turned off, then audio is recorded in stereo, and sounds much better quality. Here are some examples:
"Hey Google" enabled:

I hope Nokia will fix this bug in the next update. While this is not a major issue to me, as I am more likely to use the dedicated Assistant button anyway (and I'm pleased that Nokia included this feature on a budget device!) it's still a bug and should be resolved.

@AdamW
Which model number do you have ?
A Nokia 5.3. Model number on the back is TA-1234.
Did the July update fix this issue for you?
Just checked. The bug is not resolved in this update. With "Hey Google" enabled, audio is still recorded in mono using the bottom microphone only.
Very disappointing. I really hope this bug is fixed in the next update.
Have you emailed.support with this issue? Send the issue to email with the files.you have and how to repeat it.
Yes, I have, of course. They have told me it has been reported and will be fixed. I have my doubts. I will continue to bump this thread with every update until they fix this bug.
Received a system update today. Build number is 00WW_1_240_SP01. Changelog said it contains only the August security patch (24 days late) and nothing else.
The bug is not resolved.
Yes a security patch only, it's not late as google releases it in the first week of the month and nokia usually around the 20th
Finally a new system update. Build number is 00WW_1_290. Changelog said it contains the September security patch, plus "UI Enhancements" or something.
The bug is not resolved. Pathetic.
Another update, another opportunity to fix this bug that HMD have ignored. Build number 00WW_1_290_SP01.
The bug that I reported over 3 months ago is not resolved.
Sorry to hear that I guess android 11 will be next chance to not have this bug.
