XR20 Randomly Reboots After Android 12 Update
Hi All,
After the Android 12 update my Nokia XR20 started randomly restarting. Does anyone have the same issue?

Yes on a daily basis. Most prominent when using a headset.

I had a chat with support and will add their instructions below. So after the Android 12 update, I got the Netflix app installed automatically (didn`t have it before), after I removed that the phone stopped restarting. Please try to do the same.
I have also removed the Eventbrite app - but I don`t suspect it was causing that, so far blaming Netflix as a root cause.

I get the same restarting problem, even after removing Netflix

Same problem. 1-2 reboots every day. No problems prior to Android 12. No Netflix app. Tried factory reset. Didn't solve problem.

I`m afraid the Netflix app causing the reboots was just an illusion. The phone is still rebooting. I have noticed that it happens on mobile data, only when I`m out. When I`m at home with WiFi it works fine.
Support suggested waiting 2-3 weeks as it is happening after the Android update, so looks like they experienced the same in the past. It is quite annoying and ruins any trust in Nokia devices.

It does seam like the same issue that I'm getting, are Nokia planning to fix it anytime soon

My XR20 turned itself on, by itself, at 6.29 this morning. Startup tone work me. Anyone else experienced this problem?
1 -
I have not experienced the same - only restarts. Created service request for repair. Tomorrow DHL should pick up the phone - will provide updates here.

Hi
I have the same issue, and "happy" that i'm not alone... i tried to reset the phone many time (with different way of restoring) and install less apps... after 24h without rebooting, it's rebooted today "only" one time.
2 -
I have also a blank screen when i go to battery usage ; it's only shows how much time remaining battery...
One time it rebooted when it wad on my pocket, without using it ...
I uninstalled the netflix, spotify, vpn app, and i'll see ...

I`ve noticed that issue is happening very frequently when I`m on mobile data + listening to music via Bluetooth (3-4 reboots during 15 mins while I was coming from the gym to home) and 1-2 reboots when it is just using mobile data in my pocket. At home/office when the phone was connected to WiFI - no reboots at all. My XR20 already arrived at the repair centre in Hungary - will provide updates once support changes the status/resolution.

I'm starting suspect it's somehow related to GPS.
If i use navigation on Google maps or the app GPX Viewer it reboots.
One time i was tracking a run in GPX Viewer it rebooted 4 times in 10 minutes.

I have had the same issues following the Android 12 upgrade. Reboots have often been whilst away from home and using wired/bluetooth headphones. Returned the phone also for repair.

Reach out to support and they asked me to do this. Worth a try.
Remove the SIM card and then:
Go to settings > Apps and Notifications > See all ## apps > 3 dots on the top right corner > Show system> look for the next apps:
> Media Storage > force stop > storage > Clear Cache > Clear storage > OK> Go back
> Phone> Force stop > Storage > Clear cache Clear storage > OK> Go back app info > Select the 3 dots on the top right of the screen > uninstall updates.
> Android system> Storage> Clear data and Clear cache
> Settings storage> Storage> Clear data and Clear cache
> Get into safe mode: Press the Power button > on the window that appears, Tap and hold "Restart" Option > You will see a window asking to reboot in safe mode > Select OK > The device will restart in safe mode. An inscription about this will appear at the bottom left of the screen.
> Put the SIM card back in while the device is in safe mode and then:
> Soft Reset: Hold the Power Button and the Volume UP Button for 10 seconds until your phone switches OFF > Release the keys.

The problem ended for you now ?
About me, i removed some apps, did some settings on developpper mode, after i had no reboot for 2 days, and it rebooted again after, without listening to music, but with the smartwatch connected by bluetooth and never had reboot when i use google Maps.

Hi guys,
I have received my phone back with the next resolution:
'Your NOKIA XR20 is being prepared for shipment to the address you provided. Unfortunately, the fault is not covered by warranty and your phone is either beyond economical repair (not repairable) or the repair quote has been rejected.
Reason: No Fault Found'
--
Looks like they were not able to reproduce despite I provided steps (mobile data + Bluetooth audio).
The phone came discharged - yesterday spent a few hours reinstalling the apps, will try to get the same conditions as before to check if the issue is still there.
Support told that Nokia Repair Team might have performed some kind of hard reset which may fix the problem. Will keep you updated.

This is the standard explanation from the "HMD" technician. Was it in Hungary? They don't check anything. They only run it briefly and that's it. I also went through that with my 8.1. Fault not fixed. No forwarding of the fault description from "HMD" support. They also threw away the original box and left me scratches on the back of the phone, so I don't forget.

Hi, yes it was in Hungary. I suspect they have wiped out the phone as after 1 day of use I have not seen that issue anymore, hope I won't face it at all. So instructions provided in this thread by Hjkiddk may solve the problem.

I had one reboot yesterday morning. I went to Sweden, with roaming off, but GPS active and had no reboots.
This morning i decided i would try and disabled 5G in settings. They say 5G is bad for planes, perhaps it's also bad for phones 😂
Went on a 10 km run with a GPS tracking app running. So far no reboots.

I received my phone back from Nokia Hungary yesterday and have already had a random reboot today, whilst not connected to Wifi and listening to a podcast. If this happens again I plan on contacting Nokia support.

Hi,
Sad to hear. With my device, I haven`t had any reboots so far - tested the same scenarios - all is fine. I have received it last Friday so it is almost a week of daily usage without issues.
1 -
Same issue constantly rebooting when outside connected to my car's bluetooth and on a call on messenger or listening to spotify. I also have the issue when connected to bluetooth earbuds. So it is definitely related to audio and bluetooth issue. I hope they come with a solution soon. For a phone who is supposedly "tough" that is bad. No issue before when running android 11

So after one week after receiving the phone from repair I have received again 5 restarts yesterday when was using Bluetooth and just browsing and today 3 times without using the phone at all - it was on Mobile Data in my pocket. Contacted Nokia Support and they advised to send it again for repair.🤬

I tested yesterday with the WiFi off and using only 5G and had many rebooting, and losed all icons that was on the right side. Usually I had one or 2. Now I'm using with 4G and WiFi....
1 -
One week since i turned off 5G and no reboots so far.
Worth a try...
3 -
I disabled 5G since yesterday to try... I personally I don't see difference in daily usage about data speed, than it don't disturb me... I hope the reboots stops also for me...
2 -
I have followed the instructions shared by @Samfichier. Thanks.
Now switched to 4G and will test. A little bit disappointed as in the London area where I`m living 5G speeds on my Nokia are smashing my wife`s iPhone 12 Pro and I`m getting 300-500Mbs easily.
1 -
Yes the 5G speed is good, but if it's the price of the peace of mind...
We'll see if it's the (temporary) solution... There's another who already tried it and no reboots from days...
I hope it'll be the same for us
1 -
You don't happen to be on O2 do you?
1 -
I just tested speed on 4G outside and have about 200Mb/s ... Not far from 5G... For now, no reboots... 🤞
