Nokia 6.1 earpiece volume too low

I've been having this issue shortly after I got my phone in August.
Suddenly the volume in the earpiece has dropped to a very low setting.  The slider shows its max and pressing the volume up button doesn't increase it.  The only way I can hear a person during a phonecall is thru my Bluetooth earpiece.
I've tried clearing the cache and data for the phone and restarting the phone, I've upgraded to Android Pie and still have this issue.
I'm still waiting for Nokia tech support to reopen my previous case but that hasn't happened for over a week already.
I love this phone and would hate to get something else because of this issue.
I have the TA-1068 model and bought it new from Amazon.ca.

  • Having the same issue....
Retourned the first phone and have the same problem again, after 1 week of usage or so...
  • I experienced low call volume too through headphones only. I confirm improvement from another post from user 'zzzz8888' to disable VoLTE (Voice over LTE).

    Here is what I did:
settings / network & internet / Mobile network / Advanced / Enhanced 4G LTE Mode -- turn off this option
    make a call

    My phone:
Bought Nokia 6.1 (USA), installed all updates. now at Android 9 w/ Nov 1, 2018 security patch level. on T-Mobile network. bought on black friday. was seriously considering returning for a different product. This may stop me from returning the product. will need to try it out for a day with real calls.

    I also tried
    settings / Apps & notifications / Phone / Storage / Clear cache
    then reboot
and did not hear a call volume level change.

  • But i did not felt low volume as i use boat basshead 225 earphone.

  • Sí también mi celular se escucha muy bajo, ahora se le sumó que las llamadas me aparecen como llamada perfida
  • Same here with/without earphone

  • I have the same problem, my device a Nokia 6.1 (2018) dual sim, the sound is very low, at first with a few soft strokes it began to sound good, then this method was no longer useful

The only way I found was to send the phone to service. I sent to service my phone twice and every time it worked fine for more or less 5 months. At the third time I lost my hope and waited for Android 10 update.

The update didn't solve the problem so the new solution I found was to buy a new phone, obviously not a Nokia one, and give my Nokia 6.1 to my son for playing his games

The phone worked very well till couple of months back. All of sudden the earpiece volume has dropped too low that i find hard to hear. Please resolve or else will have to search for alternate option other than nokia.

  • To my knowledge, Nokia never fixed (or was able to fix) this problem. However, I found through this forum a way to correct it: Go to settings: Network & Internet: Mobile Network: and turn off VoLTE. That solved the problem for me. Of course, you lose the advantages of VoLTE when you do that, but that hasn't seemed to cause much of a problem for me. The other really, really bummer problem with the 6.1 (unless this one got solved and I didn't hear about it) is that you can't move most of your apps to SIM storage. That really limits how many apps you can run on internal storage. Ugh!

  • Try this maybe it will work , take a dry old tooth brush and rub the bristles quite vigorously against the earpiece , this will remove the ear wax deposited on the earpiece grill . It worked for me it may be useful for you guys .

  • I have recently incurred the same fault with my 6.1 Nokia, i have looked into and tried most of the suggestions made, however i don't seem to be able to get to the VoLTE, is it possible i do not have this on my phone, i have been really happy with this device until the last 3-4 days, i've always had Nokia phones and never had an issue like this, is it time to look at different phone manufacturers!! or can someone help, thank you.

  • Same here. I've got the TA 1068 Nokia 6.1 dual Sim. Great phone except I can't barely hear a sound on phone calls with the regular earpiece. In addition the microphone input is not catching sound (tested with a call to a friend in other room). One solution is switching to loud speaker mode, which solves both issues. But it's not ideal taking calls in public with loudspeaker on. Everything worked fine for first year, then sound went on the fritz.
