  • First clear the storage (data/cache) in your phone app. So telephone/dialer/phone whichever is the app that manages your phone calls. This resolved it for me, with a soft reset done as well (volume up and power button for 10 seconds). It happened after I did a security update, no reason why but this fix did work.

  • I did erase all data and cache from the phone app and soft reset after that. Not working...
  • Out of desperation I plugged my headphones in the phone to just be able to speak to people.  The next day I removed and tested the mic again and gone is the problem.  I suspect it was just a mic setting got mixed up in die Operating System.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • I just tested this by plugging in first my headphones and after that the stock handsfree. Not helping... It's kinda funny that people have had many different cures for the same issue..
  • Same thing here. My husband bought it from Best Buy just 7 days ago. And we want to return it. But they asked restocking fee 40$ when we bought it. We didn't pay. So is there a chance to return it? Nokia no good  anymore!!!

  • I am too facing the same issue. Strangely in my case, it started after I did a full reset of the phone. Thinking that this was a SIM issue, I contacted Vodafone. They replaced my SIM card and it worked somehow. A couple of days back, I re-formatted the phone, now the issue is back. I have also observed that using a headset may be a workaround to this issue. I think Nokia should come clean and tell the Customers where the exact issue lies. If there is a faulty hardware, they should at least replace it.

  • Are you having this issue when recording video with stock camera app?
  • Same issue here, got it after Oreo too, my thoughts also sent me to a software problem, because it was after the update it started and after another update stoped, now is back again and is getting really anoying, no camera noise at all, it is just on calls, when i'm in a call and the other person doen't listen or get the noise i put it in "high voice" dont know if its the english term, and it works but i dont want everybody else listening to my conversations. since i broke my screen (not related this happen after the issue) i think i lost warranty, and i'm not going to spend money repairing/buying a new phone on a issue that may come back later, so "Nokia" can you please give some feedback about this issue, can it be fixed with a sofware update, or is it hardware?

  • Topic was 11 months ago, and now Nokia 8 still have this problem! 
  •  Bought my Nokia 8 3 months ago and it started to make wierd noises, when someones calling me or other way. Nokia used to be a good phone. Disapointed.

  • The last security update fixed this issue for me

  • I had reported this issue here almost a month ago. But I am no longer observing it on my phone. It got resolved automatically as far as I know, which is very weird. I did not make any change on the server. Today, there was a security update and I updated it. But as far as I can tell, the issue got resolved way earlier. So I am almost certain this is not related to the latest patch.

  • Just test to make a phone call yesterday and same problem here, then make a chat with nokia support, he recommend to make some test (like clear cache, safe mode, etc) but did nor solve the problem.
Today I bring the unit to the local service centre, and she told me to exhange with the new one at the same store when I bougjt.
And now everythink ok on my new unit, even after some update (last security update on october 1, 2018)
I think this is really hardware failure
  • My phone still has this problem, even tried to do many ways but not solved.
Hope the next update or Pie can solve it.
  • Attention! simple solution to the problem.

I also suffered from this problem, tortured Nokia support service. It turns out that this is not their fault, there is a small simply unprotected front microphone. The solution is very simple: take a vacuum cleaner and clean the microphone. Tested working at 100%.

  • the same problem with me!
  • Went to the store. And they changed microphone for warranty. Problem soloved.

Alex Shtol How do you figure this is not Nokia's problem? As I see it the problem is a calibration issue between the three mics used for ozo audio. No problem when the phone is using just one mic in speakerphone mode and no problem with bluetooth headsets or car kits.

Nokia needs to add a software option to toggle off ozo audio so that only one mic is in use for phone calls, this in my opinion should solve the problem.

  • Agree with @Bad Mike!

Reset phone, clean the mic did not solve problem. Calling over apps (Viber, FB Messenger...) does not have that problem. Nokia team please think about opinion from Mike, thanks!

  • Please like my comment on the Dubai competition thread and we might just get Nokia to sit up and take notice!

Or please post you own similar comments, I am really fed up with this phone....
  • If the Pie (planned to update to Nokia 8 this month) cannot solve the mic problem, I may change my phone. Anyone likes to exchange phone?
Now need to open loudspeaker or use headphones for calling, hmmm...
  • We finally have the OFFICIAL NOKIA SOLUTION after a lot of hassle and pressure... I'll post it soon, have some more patience, a couple of days...

    Anyone complaining microphone issues;
    1. Prepare your headset
    2. then dial *#*#372733#*#* on phone dialer.
    3. This will open hidden FQC test menu.
    4. There you will find 4 analog headset loopback tests.
    5. Carry out those tests to see if any of your mics is defective. Each test will isolate your mics, so you can determine which mic is defective.
    6. Then you can go to a nokia service for repairs.

Same problem here on a brand new phone after just 2 weeks after purchase..
I did the test mentioned above and indeed the mic 2 has the problem, seems to stop the noises if I also blow on it with power..
Just want to mention that the problem first appeared just after a flight I took, maybe this has somethibg to do with it? Anyone else noticed anything similar?
Nokia please remedy this problem ASAP..
Edit: Also want to add that with the tests I  found out that the third mic is inside the ear speaker(!) No idea why they would add a mic at the spot where you listen though..
  • Same problem here, i did every test and wasted about a week in conversations with the customer support. Hopefully Nokia will do somethin about it in the next update, sad enough it took them so long...
  • My phone has been doing this intermittently for the last few days and now noise is there permenantly when I make calls. I have to use speaker phone to be able to talk. Seems a very common problem. Sadly I'm or of warranty on my Nokia 9.
