How to fix missing fingerprint sensor after PIE update?

Hi all

Some thirdparty applications can't see the intergrated fingerprint sensor anymore. I'm able to unlock my Nokia 8 with a fingertip, but other non system applications show a grey icon and text in the "Login dialog" with fingertip.

Did somebody found an solution für this issue?

I tried to remove all stored fingers and readded them - with no success.

Kind regards

Actually I reinstalled the "corrupted" apps which did not handle the fingerprints correct after PIE and all fingerprints work like before. But I did not have to do a factory reset @petrus

It may happen that apps are not yet fully optimized for Android Pie. You must wait for the application updates.
Thank you for your hint about the compatibility. But at least one of my two applications should be compatible. Maybe it's a specific problem with the implemented fingerprint sensor in Nokia? I will also ask for support by the application developer from this third party app.

@martin.fd: Do you use any "non system application" that supports the fingerprint?

Yes, and I had to login or even install them anew. Now they are working again ...

I have to add something: Fingerprint worked fine for the first 1,5 days and got lost overnight (and "low battery")

Same here: registered fingerprints erased after rebooting the phone

I can't seem to register new ones either: it's stuck at 5% (the first fingerprint)
  • Not properly respond fingerprint sensor
  • Same Problem here, they are gone after a reboot.
I can't even register the lost fingerprints again because my Nokia 8 tells me that those Fingers are already registered.

Did you anyone try to reset your factory settings?
  • I'm using SafeInCloud with my fingerprints on Android Pie. No issues at all.
  • Also Google Pay... Fingerprint works just fine.
  • Restarting phone again lets you add fingerprints from start. It worked for me.

Under Oreo this didn't happen ...

It looks like when the battery is completely empty it loses the Fingerprint data.. it is very annoying..

There should be a mechanism to keep some battery to keep these type of information. Like it shutdowns itself when the battery level is 5%..
yes, have the same problem. It comes after updating to Pie :(
  • I have the same problem and it happened when my battery got empty (i.e. the fingerprint unlock doesn't work any more and the list of taught fingerprints is now empty). And also like others, now I can't teach the same fingers again. I could teach it other fingers which I hadn't taught previously (for instance middle finger) but that's practically useless.

@lark Try a restart, usually it works then ...

    Email answer from support:

Let's hope that "We will make sure that the next security update brings a fix. It won’t take long" will really come true ...

  • I have the same problem. What helps for me is learning another finger and then it (but not always) remembers the ones already set before, although doesn't show them in settings. Sometimes it lets me learn fingers I set before after setting a new one. How it'll exactly behave is a surprise every time 😐
  • Marname's method seems to work. First I teach another untaught fingerprint, then restart and then usually I can teach the previously forgotten fingerprints again. Anyway, let's hope Nokia will fix this soon.

This obviously is a bug. But because this happens when the battery is (almost) empty, I would like to remind everyone that it is absolutely not a good idea to have an empty Nokia battery. More advice on healthy battery usage:

After the January security patch the problem is solved.
Since the patch I depleted the battery 2 times to 0% and after that the fingerprints are there. Before this update I had the same problem like all here.
