No Cell Service state with Toyota vehicles on bluetooth
I drive 2 Toyota vehicles. A 2011 Prius and a 2014 Rav4. On both cars when I pass through a no signal area the car display shows "No service" very quickly. However when I am back in a signal area, the the car display continues ot show "No service" and will not let me make an outgoing call until I disconnect then reconnect the phone. If I get an incoming call while in the "No service" state the call comes in, rings and can be answered normally.
I have tried setting the phone so bluetooth is not battery optimized, but that has not helped. Any ideas for what else I may need to adjust?

I had exactly the same with Ford Sync 1. I contacted Nokia support, the gave me the BT specs from the phone to compare with the BT of the car. Unfortunately i didn't know those specs. I bought a new car with Sync 3. Until now I had the issue once that when I came back to the car that BT did connect, but no cell service. Today I will go to a underground parking and test it with the 2.22E patch (TA-1043).
That's the only problem I have with the phone. Overall very happy with it.

Just tested the BT cell service. Didn't work. After returning to to car, connection is made. After leaving the parking cell service is not connecting. No strength signal is displayed on the car screen although cell service on the phone is correct. Outgoing call not possible, incoming call is working.

(Temporarily I hope, HMD!!) Workaround is disconnect/connect phone on car screen.

Thanks for the input MaxH. So it looks like the issue is wider spread than just the Toyotas. I too use the disconnect/reconnect trick to get the phone back, though it is not easy to do on a winding canyon road. Hopefully they will fix this issue soon.

I have the same issue with my new Mercedes GLE. My Samsung Galaxy 9 does not have the same issue although the Samsung camera will drive you nuts.

Similar issue with my Lexus, always shows no signal but phone streams fine and calls and texts work fine. Lexus Enform was recently updated. Didn't notice before, so it might have occurred with Android 9 update.0

Looks like the new forum lost some of the comments on this thread. I had hoped the update to Android 9 would solve this problem, but it continues. Early impression is that it seems to be less likely to happen in brief sections of no service, but it still happens when going through a larger section of no service. I will need to investigate more thoroughly to be sure.

+1, Lexus IS350 - new Nokia 6.1 Android 9. Upon initial connection the vehicle's signal strength indicator shows correctly, after 15-30 seconds it turns to "No Signal", although you can still place outgoing calls. Do not have this problem with other phones including iPhones (several), Moto G3, G6, and Samsung Galaxy 8. This is a "must have" feature since I travel into spotty areas and need to know the signal strength rather than just repetitively trying outbound calls to see if they will work. Will have to return the phone if this isn't fixed by the end of the Amazon return period.0

I forgot to add that my 6.1 and 7.1 has the same problem on my 2018 MB GLE and my wife's 2016 MB E400. I have a hanger queen 2007 CL600 which I cannot pair at all although my Samsung did pair after 5 or 6 tries. I wonder if it's something due to the Android One OS?

I have exactly the same problem with my car (Audi A1). Never had the problem with my older phones. Moreover, I can't access my recent call logs... Does someone have an idea about fixing this?0

Update on my first reply;
1) new car, Ford Fiesta 2018 Sync 3. Same problem on Android 8.1 Oreo.
2) Android 9 Pie. Problem seems to be a little different. Signal indicator disappears now during driving (previous only after disconnecting/connecting when parking/leaving an underground parking).
But, need to do more testing, it looks like out- and inbound calls still work.0 -
Maybe i find some help for this.Settings >> Apps&Notifications >> See all apps >> Three dots in the upper right corner >> Show system >> org.codeaurora.bluetooth >> Storage >> Clear data and cacheI think this is now fix something in this bluetooth connection with my car(Skoda octavia+Columbus audio). I'm not 100% sure is this working now correctly, but it is better now.

Thx Timo, will try.0

Same problem here: Nokia 8 (TA-1004) with a FCA UConnect. The problem is still here with Android 9 Beta.
When appears the no signal icon I can't make outcoming calls from the UConnect. When there is an incoming call, the UConnect rings, but I can't answer from it, I must take the phone for answer the call. In both cases the audio of the call is transmitted via UConnect. The problem is to answer or make a call.
I will try the workaround of @Timo Anttila.0 -
I bought two Nokia 6.1 phones to replace a Nexus 5X and Moto G and they both had the problem, except that I did not have to go out of a service area to see "no service" on my car. While in this state I could make and receive calls using the phone but not with the car controls. A work around was to turn off Bluetooth on the car, then re-enable it. I returned the phones but if an acceptable resolution is available soon, I will likely buy them again. I have AT&T for phone service.0

Clearing data in cashes helps temperary - sometimes. I have asked help from Nokia support several times - no help. The same issue also in my Peugeot. So the problem is not in the car facility but in the phone/android.
Does anyone have some further info how to fix this "permanent" issue?0 -
Workarounds won't help. Tried them all, finally a complete hardware reset. Still no signal on the car display (New Ford Sync 3, latest version). Also previous car (Sync 1) same problem. In tree years with Samsung phone no problem, not one misser.
Definitely a Nokia 6.1 problem!!0 -
Also agree that there appears to be no "fix". Tried many things with no permanent success. After months of using Android 9, my conclusion is the problem is worse than it was with 8.1 (I have No Service more often than before).

True, same experience. With 8.1 I had the issue only after parking in a underground garage. With Android 9 also when entering the car in frond of the house. Reaction on Nokia support was that I had to check the car's Bluetooth. Well Nokia, it's not the car but the phone.0
-
Yep. my previous "codeaurora" fix is not solved problem for my phone either. It working fine some days after that reset, but then bug is coming back. Android Pie is getting this matter even worse. Same problex exist our new car bran new Volvo infotainment as well. There seems to be some kind of general bug of many Nokia models with bluetooth connection in car infotainments, it's so sad they not seems to make any effects to fix that. Signal info missing is stupid problem, but with that you can live. I reclaim also bad quality of voice, (loud backround noise) this is worse problem, and seems that my Nokia is going to recycling very soon.

Come on Nokia, we your consumers need a fix asap0 -
HMD need more focus on their firmware/software instead of releasing every few weeks a new model. Besides that, it's frustrating that every half year the model you bought is replaced by the x.1, x1 plus, x.2 etc.1

Hi. Has somebody any light to this issue? Now in android 9 the "no service" is present 99% of time. Nokia seems to be totally nonchalant to fix this bug.0
-
i have some light. Samsung release S10 soon, and i hope S9 price will be drop after that. I have lost my hope to get this fixed by HMD.

Hopefully Nokia/HMD reads your comment. I suspect that Nokia people does not even read these discussions. Thanks for that hint.0

Hi, I had the same issue with a Ford sync and 7 plus phone. No fix with uninstall updates, clear cache, force stop of phone app. No fix with graphic test and safe mode. I came from a Huawei device and first use of 7 plus was with restore of phone settings.
The fix was factory reset and no restore of phone settings. I hope will work for you also.0 -

I did not restore my phone settings when I set up my phone, similarly after a factory reset. I have this problem. In fact the problem seems to be getting worse. Just a few days ago I had to disconnect and reconnect bluetooth 3 times in a row before I could make a phone call. This was in a strong signal area. Time to look for a phone brand that works.

Strange, no such voice issues with '17 mustang GT with latest sync3 update 3 (mint) or Audi Q5 (Taiwan Telecom). Both systems using Android Auto connected via USB.0
