Come on HMD, rejoice this bunch of poor souls 🤗1

That feature should have been enabled in Pie or maybe a region specific thing. As I am still on Oreo, I don't have it.
Now I feel an irresistible impulse for eagerly and flippantly demanding Pie.
I will post under each and every thread, relevant or irrelevant:
"Where is my Pie?"

I'm going back to the topic. I tried a new version of the HMD camera and several versions of GCAM. Finally I went back to the built-in camera application. The reason is that the applications were not stable and after a certain period of time it fell so that no camera applications worked. I was already tired of it. So I started playing with PRO mode. Here are some examples:
automatic mode without flash
PRO mode without flash (ISO 1600, shutter speed 1/2,)
This is how I wanted to show that I can learn how to use PRO mode and then I can quickly set and take a photo of the object. Yes, there is still noise. If I used the flash, no more noise.

I well understand your frustrations, but unless you want even more of them, just stay with Oreo until the actual working release of Pie is delivered.

@petrus and others,Indoors / party, no time to fiddle with manual settings: Burst shot in full auto (press and hold the on-screen shutter). It takes lots of pictures fast, so there's a better chance of catching people when they sit still for 1/20 second. Scroll through the images in Google Photos afterwards and select which to keep.
Sport: Set the focus distance to infinity (select a fast ISO and experiment with the white balance if indoors). It's 'sharp' from a few meters to infinity.
Burst shot in full auto is also useful for sport.
Night / fireworks: Focus distance infinity and set the ISO to 200 or 400 to keep the surroundings dark. Try daylight white balance to get a warm color tone.
Macro: Manual focus distance as close as possible. Snap multiple photos as you move towards or away from the subject. The minimum focus distance in a Nokia 8 is about 10cm / 4" and it's only 'sharp' within a few millimetres. Crop the picture later to make tiny objects appear bigger! Please let us know if you've got other tips or settings that works for you in specific situations with HMD's camera app?--

Great compilation - no additions ... except that I don't use Google Photos but the "Simple Gallery"
N.B. a link to some photos (& shooting data) taken with HMD Cam on New Year's Eve : https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/nokia-8.3114/kamera-zeigt-her-eure-schoensten-fotos-und-videos-vom-nokia-8.845883-page-2.html#post-113601573 -
Big thank-yous to Hans and martin.fd Great shots!1

Use Google camera port with night mode. See the difference. You don't need an iPhone Xs or note 9 to click better lowlight pictures1

@user1514619665383 and others,
Since I don't want to compromise my phone, how does these unofficial camera apps work in low light with people - for example at parties or at the pub?
Don't post samples but respect the privacy of others. I'm just curious if there's any magic going on in gcam, to improve the result when people move around in low light?

The night mode takes several photos in different exposure levels and then calculates them together ... if there is movement in the picture, this doesn't work (magic back or forth
)
2 -
Here's a sample of how motion in low light is handled, with a subject that doesn't care about her presence on the Internet
Not the most impressive photo ever from actual photography point of view, but should demonstrate moving targets and Night Sight mode reasonably well.

I just recognized some strange behaviour using stock camera. The exif data sometimes shows that camera model is "Nokia 8" and sometimes "HMD Global Nokia 8". I have done two pictures within two seconds and the camera model differs.Did anyone else face this?No dealbreaker though but really strange.1

This morning I've started to hear the rattling from the camera sensor that others have reported, while I didn't hear it initially. Now it's undeniably there, clearly audible. I hope the OIS did not kick the bucket 😥

Yes, the "clicking" I also noticed a few weeks ago (actually after the Pie update) for the first time consciously (whereby it belongs to the OIS?!). At least at the moment the camera is still doing well ...

The camera app in pie hasn't changed.i hope Nokia to do something about it!1

@martin.fd Were you three shots above taken in Oreo or Pie I haven't found a pixel camera for Nokia 8 in Pie...0

I tried this version of Nokia camera app
What is not working:
Beautify
Motion
Flash in front camera
Square
Pip
What is working:
All others
If you want not to crash the app disable beautify and flash in front camera.don't use square.pip too.from what I understand is that Nokia cannot find a way to fit the monochrome lens of Nokia 8 in this app.i don't know if beautify or flash in front camera or pip is so much problem to make them work properly in Nokia 8. If someone knows inside hmd and Nokia if they could at least release this camera app which is desent to Nokia 8 I would be happy to here. I don't know either if with android pie they updated the camera api from 2 to 3 in order to support more functions. If someone could at least give an answer to all of us.1 -
I'm also with this camera app and really is very good one. The pictures are with details and the focus is fast enough. And in dark places the photos are bright.
There are 2 more bugs but there is solution to work and don't bother me.0 -

Thanks @martin.fd and @user1508928527225 ,The firmware / HMD's camera app in Nokia 8 also does some clever stuff for focus stacking, exposure blending, retouching and noise reduction. There are built-in features to remove artifacts from the image stacking but it's not always succesfull when people move around, especially in low light.HMD and Zeiss have failed to promote or even document these hardware and firmware features, sadly.
Other apps don't have access to the system API's but have to perform similar features in software, which is much slower.I'll stay with the HMD camera app for now and do the burst-shot workaround for indoors pictures with people, unless they sit still within flash range.A cropped but otherwise unedited sample from a one-second burst shot sequence to demonstrate the image stacking in HMD's camera app. I got 3 useful and 1 keeper from ~15 pictures (and some more or less blurred) all labeled as 1/20 second ISO400-550 - and all was processed and ready for use immediately ;-)2
