Got the Security patch for January 2019

Just got the January security patch. No proper pie, no proper camera.

Edit: I'm pleased to announce that the phone survived the update (did not get bricked or anything so far).

I was also hoping for the compass bug to be fixed, but doesn't seem to be the case. The compass is still "high" and useless.

It will be interesting to see if people still on the beta get it or not.
  • Isn't that what they said? Beta users would receive one more security patch before the next feature update? Reading it like this, we could hope for the enhanced pie in February (fingers crossed...)
  • This time I also received it on time.

It is what they said but if non beta users are getting it first who knows what they will do next

Fortunately, I skipped specifying the calendar year in my "February" guess ;-)

@mrbelter I hope it's only a coincidence that I, as an "official" pie user, got it. It may be related to regional phasing/rollout, I invite whoever received the patch to also disclose whether they're running on the beta-labs pie or the "official" release.

So, Nokia LIED yet one more time. The support assured me that with the next update, the compass issue will be fixed. If they continue to behave like that, this company is doomed.

next update = next security patch?
next update = next BS update???
  • I am a Beta-User, and I didn't receive the January-Securitypatch.

And, you can believe what your want. I for myself don't believe the "words" of HMD. No more.

I think, it will be February, and we will see NO correctly Pie - Update and NO correctly Update of camera-firmware.

And, I have others to do as to wait for something, what not will be coming. Yes, but, is my opinion.

Maybe by "next update" they mean Android Q

I really don't know what to believe of them anymore. My expectations have been gruesomely shattered by their delivery vs. promises. And yes, I'm talking about my expectations set by their own promises in the latest months.

As you may have already read, I've lost the chance to return the device (had 30 days time to return for refund), but then Sarvikas promised us the super pie with the new super camera and all those other sweet treats. Yeah, that guy has zero credibility to me now.

The thing is I'm trying to stop waiting and longing for their announced dates, as I'm most likely to inflict more psychological damage to myself with these...umm... Yeah...
  • We can take our money back i think because of compass problem. We can give our nokia 8s to the technical service for compass issue. And they will not solve.. so nokia will take our devices back. At least in Turkey laws say this.
  • F.U. nokia and sarvikas

@user1535316420182 I'd rather invoke the "Sarvikas problem".

@Mihail Tinchev what compass app are you using? I've tested the compass found in the GPSTest app.
  • January update received in Denmark on full Pie. Compass still not fixed.

  • January update received in Germany on Nokia 8 (pie, no beta) - no voice match "ok Google", double symbols in Camera
  • Past weekend i did -> rollback from beta to stable Oreo -> got update to stable Pie with December patch.
    Got the January patch today.

As I'm on the beta, I checked for updates after noticing this thread. No update available so far. Oh well.

I'm also on the beta and no update (to answer my own question)
  • Beta - no update.

Thus us getting ridiculous... The phone broke my Alarm app (sleep as android), only the stock alarm work, but that one doesn't have the features I use on my alarm app. I've been late to work several times now since the update. Resorted to getting 1 analog alarm clock to have by my bed.

Such a weird issue that an update to the phone can cause sever problems relating to work.
  • i don't expect any improvement in our Nokia 8 anymore. I guess the update in android 9 will remain as it is. It is not an android one phone it does not belong in treble programme so any improvement or bug fix needs implementation either from nokia devs either from google its self and i don't believe anyone will put effort in a phone which counts almost 2 years in the market already. I feel like a foul that i bought it. I will try to sell it at least to save some money and buy xiaomi MI A2.I would like the nokia 7 plus but from my experience to nokia no thanks. Of course nobody in nokia will care for our disappointment but which company does.

I have a stable version and got a January security update.
  • I have a problem with the battery after this update.
    It drops faster, much faster.
Now I'm on 3h SOT and have 32%. Before this update a have between 45-50%. With same usage.
Even in standby it drops with 1% on every 15min, before, 2% for 1h and 30min.
In battery statistics there isn't something that drain it faster today.
I hope after the charging tonight to be better tomorrow. Sometimes there happens things like this.

@Jivko Antonov I've noticed the same, extremely fast discharge after installing the patch! I didn't mention it as maybe it's that battery optimisation cycle, reset after the patch. I'll see how it fares in the next few days.
