100% fix for Battery drain issue post Android PIE update on Nokia 5

Hello Guys,

I have found interim relief for the battery drain issue after Android Pie update on Nokia 5 (hope this will also work on other phones like Nokia 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 and 8).

Things need to be done to check if it workouts for you:

1. Switch on battery Saver always(don't worry further setting told below will allow apps to run fine).

2. Turn off adaptive battery/brightness.

3. Tap 5 times on Build number in Setting(Settings> System > About Phone> build number) and turn on Developer mode.

4. come to Developer options (in Settings> System )search through all the option and let them all be set to off, the Background process limit and Don't keep activity are set to "Standard" and"off" respectively by default please don't change this....its Very important.

5. I also set the Window animation/Transition animation/Animator duration scale to "off" which drastically improved and eliminated few lags in notification bar/lock screen which I was randomly facing.

6. Lastly Give a REBOOT to device.

Doing all this my battery backup is same as on Oreo 8.1 on my Nokia 5, hope this will also work for you guys. Give a try

    Hey Chris,

Don't worry nothing will be affected as all other Dev options are disabled. I must say, we luckily found this....Anyway Battery is working as in Oreo..

    ..so Cheer

LOL but for most who use Nokia 5 as primary phone with both SIM, battery life is very poor, battery decreases when in Idle, % drops drastically while using simple apps....So above method really works for those

  • This developer options setting really works great and I am getting way better battery's life now, even better than Oreo time.
  • but how solve notificacion delay?

Really Awesome, battery life is just improved even better than  in Oreo
  • Please be aware though when on carrier network and not wifi it still dropping fast.
But, this afternoon I update the carrier networking apps on play store and it has been great again!
Do checked this out if u r still facing battery fast draining issues.
Now I am free from the problem even not on battery saver mode!
Pie camera apps also improve alot! It really feel like a new phone after pie., Smoother and also not feel lagging anymore.

  • today my phone downloaded an update on Device Health Services and although after Koushal's advise, which worked perfectly I might add, the phone started again it's PIE battery drain

@Chris Oxizoglou, I too faced the same issue post update of "Device Health Services(app calculates remaining battery percentage based on usage)" from morning and have now uninstalled the update.....Thanks @Chris Oxizoglou for update
  • is Nokia giving any care in finding a permanent solution soon??? We can't keep looking at our battery and constantly find ways to overcome daily issues with PIE version. PIE is many months old and someone should have fix it already. Is anyone in Nokia believing that our next phone will be a Nokia again? No one ever informed usnfoemallyon how to deal with this issue

Exactly, I don't think Nokia is very serious, because the Nokia 5.1+/6.1+/7.1+ users got Pie update many months before and are still facing issue, & Pie OS itself is ~5 months old.

God knows what will happen with our phones!!!
  • Nokia its really disappointing..pls find a fix for battery Issue ASAP

Even though the Developer mode has improved the battery drain issue drastically, still there is some drain found overnight with all apps cleared...

NOKIA waiting for Feb patch to clear all this mess...pls
  • Hope so too. So far it seems it's done on purpose

    That's true
  • hello all, I updated my Nokia last monday, after that, when I connect it to electrical grid to charge, the battery moves from 0 to 1 % and from 1% to 0%. The phone is unusuable and I'm sure the cause is Android 9 Pie. I'm from Italy. Some one has the same issue? thank you in advance
  • Yesterday I did what Koushal suggested and my battery life seems to be back to how it was before the Pie update.
Specifically, after Pie update, charge phone to 100% in the evening, leave on standby over night (with WiFi and mobile data switched off), next morning battery was at 94%. Before Pie, phone would typically still show 100% battery the following morning.

After making the suggested changes, my phone was behaving as before Pie update, ie. battery still at 100% the following morning after full charge. - Hooray!

  • Hi docor, I'm probably not the best person to give advice, but in response to your questions:
    1. I turned off each option manually. Most were set to OFF anyway, but I did find that "Mobile data always active" was set ON, so I switched that OFF, particularly as I normally have mobile data switched off unless I specifically need it.
    2. To reboot my device, I just press and hold the power button. You should see 3 buttons appear on screen near the power button: "Power off", "Restart" and "Screenshot". Press "Restart".
    3. On my phone, the "{} Developer options" are still available, though at the top of the page, there is an on/off toggle button, so I guess they could be switched off if you like.

Hey Decor, pls follow John's simplified statements, it will work for sure
  • hey jhon i hope your good.i tried it any times but it didnt work.i think it worked once because the battery was charging fast but it was when phone was powered off and as soon i turned it on it went back to like it was that is chrging too slow.the battery is even charging down even if its on chargring.how do i restart this whole process,my phone is in developer mode right now
  • Guys, there is Feb security update available for Nokia 5 with ~370MB, hope this may fix all our issues.

Go head and check if update avail for you.....
  • i updated too Kushal, there seems to be a small improvement, as there was when I initially followed your suggestions. However the improvement seems small and by now I am pretty sure it will again slip back to quick draining. A problem is either fixed or not fixed. Now they only tamper with the problem to give small satisfaction and play with us. My Nokia 5 is 1 year old, still in it's initial 2 year guarantee. Well HMD, definitely cannot be trusted in my future phone choice
