@potemkin where did you read about the redundancies? I can't find any info about them. Nokiamob crew told me at MWC that the Eastern Europe department was being closed and that team were being made redundant, but apart from that I don't know about any redundancies.
@madbilly I read those employee reviews on Glassdoor. Far more authentic than reading about it on some news site or press release, if you ask me. But you don't have to be Einstein to come to the conclusion that HMD's leadership is not interested in hiring more software engineers even though they're constantly releasing more and more new phones. That's the real reason why most of us still haven't received complete Pie update, free of major bugs, almost 8 months since it was released by Google. "Pure Android" to HMD is only a marketing term, nothing more.
At least they have written response to you but they are restrained in my case. They wrote me via Nokia Chat before, I should reset the phone, remove apps that use compass, etc. When I sent an email to report a problem about a month ago, I see no answer to this day. So I firmly believe that our complaints will be heard and a repair will come out shortly. And I have to agree that Nokia probably doesn't have enough software developers because they release incomplete version of Android for Nokia 8. I bought Nokia just because of frequent software updates but that's what Nokia is currently failing to do.
@potemkin yes those Glassdoor reviews are interesting, though they also seem like disgruntled employees - are there ever any reviews which praise companies on Glassdoor? Anyway, I think the info about redundancies is probably reliable, I agree with you there.
As for them having software engineers... hmm. When I met them in Barcelona I asked several people who was responsible for software and nobody knew.... which is enlightening (and worrying)! Some people seemed to suggest it was their suppliers (which I presume means Evenwell, Qualcomm, Mediatek, etc) but that nobody in HMD was "Head of Software", for example, but each product manager was responsible for the software on their phones. Now, product managers tend to be responsible until a phone is ready to release, and in the few months afterwards to support the marketing drive, but later on these people focus on new models again. So, I asked who was responsible for existing phones.... again nobody knew! Again enlightening and worrying. I suspect that the responsible people are both the VP of Operations (I assume they are largely responsible for supply chain) and VP of Customer Experience (who has now left, so the position is vacant).
It is beginning to sound like we all fell for the name and the nostalgia for a company that is running around like a headless chicken.
I genuinely thought i was buying in to something special when i bought (and recommended) the Nokia 8. Mr Sarvikas came across as a very trustworthy and likeable bloke that you could get answers from but sadly the truth seems to be he is just a public yes man. HMD/Nokia seemed like the fresh face of Android i wanted to be a part of, a company that was considerate to the people that were giving them their money, sadly all of this for me has been shattered as time has moved on and the Nokia 8 has been made steadily worse.
I wished i had just bought whatever phone OnePlus were offering at the time now.
@madbilly It doesn't really matter if HMD has its own software developers/engineers or if it contracts Evenwell or some other obscure company to do software for them. Problem is that HMD leadership wants to invest the same amount of money for software development and support, no matter whether they have 3 or 30 phones in their portfolio. It's like one of those "disgruntled employees" on Glassdoor wrote: they want 1 person to do the job of 10.
Does anyone have any new info about compass repair or we still have to wait until then? Why Nokia does not give an official statement on any social network, when the compass fix will be released? They really can't fix it since December?

They don't care about Nokia 8 issues.
I see. That was big mistake left iPhone and buy Nokia. Never again. I think I buy iPhone 7 Plus and sell Nokia.
The errors that the phone has are inexcusable. I just briefly mention the ever-falling WiFi (on iPhone without a problem), compass bug, the Camera app that needs updating and the wrong brightness level (for which I had to choose manual brightness). But back to the Camera app. I noticed that the original Camera app with which Nokia 8 came out, recorded better videos and better sound. Current Camera app is having a significant focusing problems.
I got in touch with the assistance, an experience which I do not recommend (in two hours I talked to 5 different people, I had to reassess the problem 5 times, they made me do useless things with the phone), only to hear a "hope the issue will be solved in the next update".
They were not able to tell me when the update will be available, nor if the compass bugfix is included.
This info costed two hours of my time, don't lose yours.
It is the same what all the others here said. It is absolutely useless to contact HMD's "Support". You don't will rceive HELP there. Only useless words.
I did just that, and the response I got (shortened) was:
"Your case will be transferred to the relevant department and we hope it will be addressed with the next software update. Thank you again for the patience and understanding, I apologize on behalf of the team for the inconveniences caused."
Well let me say I hope so too, but it doesn't sound too confident. And then the ticket was closed
@martin.fd You seem to have forgotten the dreaded HMD Global notion of SOON™. And the weight of their "we'll make sure the next update will provide a fix"... How many times have we gotten such promises, only to be served nothing of the kind?
Did we try to assess the issue on social media, rather than on a Nokia forum where we can only complain? Maybe if we point out the issue in a not-so-safe space for the brand we can obtain something, like the date for the update.

All we have to do it's just sell this rudebox with "Nokia 8" label and forget about HMD at all! I have longstanding business trips and brokeb compass it's like nightmare for me.
