Just look at DXOMark, as Nokia 8 hit. Even at the time of release, it significantly lagged behind competitors from the same segment. It's not different today.

DXOMark is not the be-all-and-end-all of photography - just look at how the previous PureView phones did and tell me you really think they deserved those scores.
Let's be objective. The camera was weak at the time of release on Nokia 8 and I have to agree with the DXO Mark, that photo/video quality is very bad after zooming. Nokia was losing competition at that time and very bad customer support is pushing Nokia away.
i have posted this problem to Nokia and Sarvikas Twitter, but no any reply yet. Should we all go to twitter and comment on the compass problem in order to force them take a look on this problem?

It's not like they don't know about it. They're deliberately putting Nokia 8 issues on a back burner and that's not gonna change. They're thinking only short term and care only about $$.

If you read that sadly you will see the people that matter only ever engage in positive posts, they simply ignore anything that questions the Nokia 8 and its problems. To be fair though it seems they are like this with every Nokia Phone so at least they are consistent.
The question is why would they want my phone back if there was a fix in the works?
I'm pretty sure that support department doesn't get any feedback from their R&D department and they never know what will be fixed in the next update. "It will be fixed in the next update" is just one of the phrases they say in 90% of conversations to calm down rightfully infuriated customers. So, they probably suggested that you return your phone in case your phone has a hardware defect.

Hmmmmmm...
Yeah possible I suppose.
Although I replied to that email stating that they had already said it would be fixed in the next update.
Also pointed them here.
And ask if the fix was supposed to be in the last update.
No reply from that one though.
I just have this feeling that they are just going to drag it out till we just give in.
May I remind you, that this is the "compass not working-topic" ... for camera issues there are other threads
Excuse me for offtopic. But .. we're still asking for a compass repair and I'm starting to think it's probably useless. People who have golden nerves have to wait and hope that the compass will work someday. Others, give up Nokia and buy the reliable device from a reputable manufacturer. Btw, after a long time, I received a reply from them, that they understand how important it is for me and they are already working on compass fix. Rather, it feels like running on a long track. We need an official statement when the compass will be repaired.
I think, we can stop the discussion here. All know the problem, I think, HMD too. But here comes NOTHING!!! 😡
Contact the support is absolutely USELESS. They have only the same informations than we. Will say, no informations (about updates), too. No informations, no answers. Only, please "wait" on the next Update, it comes "soon", we "work on the problem"". That's all. 😡
Let me tell you something: The longer it takes, the more I catch myself thinking (hoping) that HMD might really be working on a real update with bugfixes (e.g. for the compass) and not just on the next security patch ...
I have at least little hope that it will be as you say. The latest security update is January 1st for me, so I believe that the delay of other security updates is caused due to compass fix.
I've contacted customer care again, letting them know that the problem still exists.
After going through the scripted replies .
This time want me to return the phone.
The question is why would they want my phone back if there was a fix in the works?
Some thing smells fishy.
"They" told me to return my phone a couple of months ago, then forgot they had said so. Just one of the standard replies. They know as well as we do, that the repair shop is not going to find the error because, as a man on this site who knows what he is taking about has said, they run the analysis test which shows the compass is working when it actually isn't.
The interesting thing is that after a restart, the compass works fine during the first launch of whatever application. After the app is closed, the compass flips and is not correct anymore. It is risky to send your Nokia 8 for a repair, because they will do something simple, restart the phone, run an application, see that the compass works, and send it off as repaired, but it actually won't be.
@martin.fd Sorry, but I am disagree with you. I don't believe on a wonder. WHEN they would worked on a "real" update, then they could informed us. But here comes nothing, too. 😒
They speak about a real update for the camera since the middle of the LAST YEAR. Here without results, too. 😡
Why do you think, that HMD will change this now, his "sevice". No, I can see NOTHING in this direction. 😪
Yes, HMD is s little firm. But, they published in this time about 25 Smartphones. Every Smartphone has his own problems, own bugs. That's why they have to worked on every Smartphone. I think, they haven't the time to work on and to support every Smartphone.
And, our 8 is one of the oldest of her series. Now is it "smartphone-history". It "works" more or less, but, this was it. Every customer, who dislikes it, shall buy a new smartphone. In my mind, this is HMD'S firm-philisophy. If we like it or not. 🙄

Not on my Nokia 8 TA1004. A simple compass app like Compass Galaxy sort of works, but soon flickers and points in all directions. The compass in the mapping app ViewRanger doesn't work at all and in Star Walk 2 and Stellarium, stargazing apps, north is immediately south, while east and west are correct. I tested all the apps after restarting the phone. But that's my phone, and no one 8 seems to be malfunctioning in precisely the same way.
FYI, I think that the compass issue is well known by HMD digital marketing and social media team. Why? Because @Francesco Bacchini and I told them directly ourselves and more importantly because I think they use this page to track what the current hot topics which people are discussing here on the forums: https://community.phones.nokia.com/bestof/
I think that they also use analytical tools with Twitter, facebook, etc. as well to show them to top topics which people are talking about in relation to their phones.
So, keep talking and it will continue to be in their consciousness.
As a a rascally idea, anyone who wants could re-appropriate some of HMD's own #tag marketing mottos to highlight the compass issue, e.g. #UniteFor working compass! or #WhatMatters is knowing which direction I'm going in!

Well, actually compass is working but the main issue is that North and South are inverted!
I totally agree, probably they do know but the topic is not "critical" yet. Creating a simple hashtag to use could help, maybe, but we need to create contents (comments / posts) and cover all the interested channels.
We could use something funny, or mock something well known in mainstream culture. I'm not an native English speaker but...
#lostonnokia
#wandernokia
#latewithnokia
#intothewildnokia
#lostwithnokia
#nocompassnokia
#nokiaforgottenones
and so on
or something from Pirates of the Caribbean, where Jack Sparrow's compass doesn't show the North but where his desires are (maybe ours works in the same way )

Sarvikas Twitter, but no any reply yet. Should we all go to twitter and comment on the compass problem in order to force them take a look on this problem?
just contact with the cs:
the issue will probably get addressed in the next update
Hope so.

We're still waiting for HMD.
